~ David 8 about Praetomorph |
The Praetomorphs are the titular secondary antagonists of Alien: Covenant. They are presumably a precursor species of the Xenomorphs created and experimented on by David 8, utilizing the Chemical A0-3959X.91 – 15 pathogen in the process.
Characteristics[]
Praetomorphs were offshoot species of Xenomorphs developed by David 8 via experimentation with A0-3959X.91 – 15 in conjunction of tissue samples harvested from Elizabeth Shaw, deceased Engineers, and Neomorphs spawned from the native species of Planet 4. While similar to their mainstream cousin species, Praetomorphs were, for a lack of better word, cruder physiology and behavior-wise due to still first generations of their kind and that David 8 had yet to properly finalize them. Most notably, they lacked biomechanical features found in regular Xenomorphs as well as more animalistic and aggressive, prone to attack foes and preys alike head on with reckless abandon as well as more temperamental.
In Alien: The Roleplaying Game, Praetomorphs don't get along with regular Xenomorphs, much less any other species they encountered; they would attack anything on sight.
Life Cycle[]
Praetomorph Eggs[]
Praetomorph Eggs resembled traditional Xenomorph Egg on the first glance. But upon closer inspection, one would notice them being more bulb-like in shape as opposed of ovoid and the core within resembled a translucent sac encasing the facehugger.
The Eggs apparently exuded strong pungent smell and only hatched upon physical contact with potential host(s) rather than getting too close.
Praeto-Facehugger[]
Also known as Praetomorph Facehuggers, Praeto-Facehuggers are larger and less dexterous than regular Facehuggers. Yet at the same time faster and agile, able to dodge gunfire as well as take cover and regroup before launching a more successful attack.
Praeto-Facehugger's ability to subdue a host somewhat paled in comparison to regular facehuggers, not as difficult to remove once maintained a solid grip over the host's face which didn't help by less potent acidic blood. However, they could get around such setback through with the last-resort ability to implant a host within seconds of attachment — implantation process would go normally if not interrupted however.
Praetomorph Chestburster[]
Praetomorph Chestbursters were the result of Praeto-Facehugger's successful attempt in impregnating hosts with mutagenic compound which form into embryo within their chest cavity. Also known as Imp because Praetomorphs in this stage have fully developed arms and legs which immediately usable upon emerging from the host reminiscent to mainstream chestburster that would become Xenomorph Runner, as well as a translucent carapace and tail.
A Praetomorph Chestburster would mimic the physical activity of any beings nearby if it didn't detect any dangers in the vicinity of its emergence. Following their emergence, they would flee to a safe place to properly mature. Their maturation was much more quickly than regular chestbursters however.
Praetomorph Chestbursters which gestated from rats won't develop further, though it nonetheless adopted behavior and tactics of regular adult Praetomorphs.
Praetomorph Drone[]
Also known as Stalker, Praetomorph Drones resembled regular Xenomorph Drones in appearance and even shared the same set of powers and abilities, including Eggmorphing (forming a new Egg out of a fresh kill) to overcome the lack of Queen in their territory. However, they lacked the latter's biomechanical aesthetics, its limbs were longer, thinner and skinless, with exposed muscles and blood vessels and gaps appearing in its armpits. Even the teeth varied from the metallic fangs characteristic of typical Xenomorphs, being more blunt in shape and consisting of translucent bone.
Praetomorph Queen[]
As David 8 had yet to finalize Praetomorphs, it's unclear how would a Praetomorph Queen would look like at this point. Nevertheless, the rogue synthetic intended to create one someday.
