Call me the darkness -- that precedes the light of creation. The sleep into which all beings and things -- even God himself -- must inevitably fall.
~ Pralaya introducing herself.

Pralaya is a minor overarching antagonist in the DC Comics multiverse. She is a primordial cosmic entity, the embodiment of the nothingness that will eventually consume and return the entire multiverse to back into the void before creation itself. She first appeared in the 2011 comic series Justice League Dark Vol 1 39.

History[]

Pralaya is considered to be a neutral cosmic entity in the DC franchise and a necessary evil since she is a natural aspect of the multiverse itself.

However, when the Justice League Dark first encountered her, she was causing all of space-time throughout reality to rupture in an attempt to accelerate the inevitable end of everything. Pralaya explains that the multiverse only exists because it was born into the void and when it is done, It will return it back into her womb. She encourages each member of Justice League Dark to abandon the lives they have chosen for the tempting peace of the void yet they reject her offer. Pralaya consumes the multiverse until only the Justice League Dark remain only they trick her by using magic to restore all creation, repelling her back into the nothingness.

It is heavily implied this defeat was merely a setback for Pralaya since all she has to do is await for the whole multiverse to live out its long life before consuming everything in the end. It's also heavily implied Pralaya wasn't even trying hard at all to fully consume the multiverse or fight back.

Power/Abilities[]

  • Omnipotence/Nigh-Omnipotence: Pralaya is a one of the most powerful DC Comics characters, a god-like being with nearly limitless magic powers over the multiverse. She is the True Darkness that even "God" dies into at the end, making her superior to the Great Evil Beast since He is just the evil half of "God" (aka The Presence) while She is the very Almighty God as the non-dual all-encompassing void pre-creation which all of creation will inevitably return to since it is just "her" dream which upon waking up, will consume it and it cannot be stopped
  • Dissolution: Pralaya can dissolve virtually anything she comes across.
  • Nonexistence: Pralaya is the personification of the void before the multiverse.
  • Life and Death Transcendence: Since Pralaya is Nothingness itself, she is beyond life and death, able to exist both before and after all creation.
  • Void Manipulation: Pralaya can manipulate nothingness which allows her to do basically anything with it.

Trivia[]

  • Pralaya is similar to the Great Darkness of the DC multiverse, the darkness which also preceded the light of creation and is known to take varying shapes and forms, sometimes unknowingly, in order to interact with the creations of the Presence (the supposed supreme being of the DC Comics multiverse). Because of this, she is most likely a part of the Great Darkness, due to the fact that she represents the darkness before creation, and wants to consume all that is.
