Villain Overview

Times like these, when the nation is in chaos, are the best opportunity to determine who is loyal or who is not. Any fools who oppose me will be driven out and executed.
~ Honest's famous quote.

Honest, also known as Prime Minister Honest, the Prime Minister and the First Minister, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Esdeath) of the manga/anime series Akame ga Kill!. He is the Prime Minister of the Empire and the one truly in control, as the Emperor is still just a child.

He manipulates the Emperor for his own ends by exploiting his innocence, spreading misery, hunger, corruption and poverty throughout the land for no other reason than sadistic pleasure, making him responsible for all the pain and misery that occurs in the series. He is also the father of Syura, who is the leader of the Wild Hunt.

He was voiced by Kōji Ishii in Japanese and Marty Fleck in English.

Appearance[]

Honest is a tall, round elderly man with long gray hair (blonde in the manga), amber eyes (red in the manga), and a long beard that extends down to his abdomen. He wears a pair of brown boots, a olive green shirt, a belt below his abdomen and short pants which are also olive green, as well a dark gray coat of a dog-like creature in the neck.

He also wears a black crown that somewhat resembles a set of horns. In the manga, this crown contains Erastone, a Teigu with the power to destroy other Teigus.

Personality[]

Great. Even after all that, he is still alive and kicking - I heard his body took some special training or something?

That's fortunate. That way he ought be cut much more by many people who are pissed off at him as much as possible!
~ Vengeful revolutionary soldiers as they take Honest's pieces of body parts.

Honest often acts like a stereotypical cartoon villain, doing whatever he wants and being a glutton who is always seen gorging himself on food with little care for his table manners. He is also shown to be cannibalistic as shown when he oversees the Emperor ordering the execution of an man while voicing his approval, and smugly tells him that he will make sure to take "care of his wife... every single part of her" while casually chowing down on some food. He also casually told Leone that he would devour her, starting with her womb. Honest appears to be an extravagant and wealthy supremacist who thinks he is above everyone else. He is willing to commit any atrocity possible, in order for him to get a higher power; encouraging those who work under him to torment others for his amusement.

On the surface, he is a quiet man who appears to be gentle, peaceful, soft-spoken and harmonious in almost all of his interactions with the child emperor. However, he does not regret anything cruel in what he does, seeing them as nothing more than another step to achieve his goals of getting more power over the country. He never shows an inkling of remorse and revels in causing pain. Honest also does not even care about his family. He mourned the death for his son for about a few seconds before dismissing it, shocking Budo. Furthermore, while he does get furious whenever someone that is family dies, he never shows actual care for them.

The most disturbing thing about Honest would be his somewhat over-the-top-nature. Unlike in the anime where he is mostly calm, the manga version is unhinged to a degree that disturbs even some of his greatest allies. While this does provide some funny moments, it does not lessen his heinous acts as his creators make sure that his comedic approach highlights how insane he truly is.

Biography[]

It is stated that Emperor only won the battle of succession due to the Prime Minister's influence and planning. The Prime Minister before him was Chouri, a man that was a kind-hearted but strong willed and a strong adviser to the former emperor, who desired to return to the capital to stop the decline of the empire.

When the Prime Minister became aware of this, he had Esdeath's forces (The Three Beasts') tasked to kill him. He is known to have one son, and he is also known to have one blood relative named Iwokura, who was killed by Night Raid.

In the episode 24 of the anime series, Honest attempted to escape from his palace in a secret passage but he gets caught by Leone, he uses the Erase Stone to destroy Leone's Imperial Arm before wounding by shots of his pistol, but however. Leone kills the prime minister by punching repeatedly and crushing his entire skull using his own hands which causes an mess of blood in the floor and she quickly left the palace before it gets destroyed.

But in the manga, his death is different, after Leone makes an massive hole on Honest's stomach leaving them disembowelled, he gets throw off the palace's balcony before being taken away by the Revolutionaries, Honest later was forced to suffer a mortally long series of torture as an punishment for his crimes , there various military rebels took mutilating his organs, nose and arms in which records of his gruesome execution in left public, with his flesh hiding a massive bounty.

Trivia[]

  • His name "Honest" (which means free of deceit and untruthfulness) is a rather ironic name, since the man is a manipulative and power-hungry liar.
