The Primes are the antagonistic organization in the sixth season of the CW show, The 100. These are four families originally from Earth who colonized the Alpha moon and named their refuge Sanctum. The most important and leading member of Sanctum is Russell Lightbourne.
History[]
Background[]
After the nuclear apocalypse on Earth, the survivors traveled to Alpha by the Eligius Corporation to study the planet. They later decided to settle down and name a state Sanctum. In order to survive the Red Sun toxin, the Primes used Mind Drives so they could transfer their minds into it and use a human host as a body to live on. Years later, the Primes have become the monarchs of Sanctum and are seen as gods in the eyes of their citizens.
The 100[]
The Primes appear in Season 6 and give a warm welcome to Clarke Griffin and her group. They however banish Charmaine Diyoza because of her criminal background. Russell and his wife Simone invite Clarke to dinner with them but are suspicious because of what Jordan Green has told them about his past on Earth. They prepare to expel her and her people but when Clarke saves Delilah from the Children of Gabriel, they decide that she and the others stay because she's a Nightblood.
During their time in Sanctum, Jordan is the first to doubt the Primes after Delilah's rise seems completely different from after they met. It is then that he and the others discover a secret lab and watch a video of the Primes torturing humans and manipulating the Mind Drive to survive in another's body. Additionally, Clarke's body is used as a host to resurrect Josephine, the Lightbourne's daughter. But thanks to Bellamy and the help of former Prime Gabriel Santiago, Clarke's spirit is restored and Josephine's disappears. Near the end of the season, Ryker Desai is killed by Echo and Simone uses the body of Abby, Clarke's mother as a host.
The remaining Primes take refuge on the ship Eligius IV and take Clarke's friends hostage. The latter pretends to be Josephine and tricks the Primes before floating them. In revenge, Russell, the last Prime, uses Madi possessed by Sheidheda, against Clarke so that she surrenders. Luckily, Madi comes to and has Russell and his men arrested.
In Season 7, Russell is still taken prisoner but the citizens demand his death. He is eventually killed by the Dark Commander who regains control of his body, finally ending the Primes and their rule over Sanctum.
