The Primordial Gods are the overarching antagonists of the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok. They are an ancient race of deities born from primordial chaos.

History[]

There are two myths about the origin of the primordial gods, but the one officially known is a lie. According to this false story, the primordial gods were born from the primordial chaos and shaped all of creation as it is today, ruling over the world until their physical bodies began to collapse, unable to contain their immense power.

The truth is that originally there were 88 primordial gods born from the primordial chaos, who brought forth all of creation. Among these gods, four stood out in particular, known as “The Four Primordial Pillars of Yggdrasil”: Ymir, Satan, Chaos, and Odin.

One day, Yggdrasil and seven other primordial beings decided to exterminate all the lesser gods, deeming them "useless".

However, the remaining 77 Primordials turned against them, triggering a great war that would become known as the "Original Ragnarök." Despite their numerical superiority, it proved nearly impossible for the other Primordials to defeat the 11 Pillars, who were far too powerful. They ended up killing more than half of the 77 Primordials. Just when all seemed lost, Gǫllnir, the Great Inventor God, intervened and offered the surviving gods his greatest invention: Gleipnir, the Weaving of the Sealed Gods. He and the survivors decided to transport the Pillars to a land at the edge of the world and, combining their powers and life force, they sealed the Pillars using Gleipnir's forbidden technique. But wielding such a powerful technique was an immense burden, even for such mighty beings, leaving many Primordial gods grievously injured, and some even died during its use.

Appearance[]

The primordial gods had appearances similar to the current gods, being vaguely human-like with some inhuman characteristics.

Powers and Abilities[]

General Abilities: The 88 Primeval Gods, responsible for the creation of the universe, are among the most powerful beings in all of creation. Their physical abilities far surpass those of an ordinary human. Their bodies are invulnerable to mortal weapons, but they can be injured by unarmed attacks from beings of superhuman strength or by Divine Weapons. For this reason, the Primeval Gods cannot die of old age. Their immense power makes them virtually invincible in combat.

  • Divine physiology: the primordial gods possessed strength and abilities superior to those of most humans, and perhaps even most other beings.
    • Semi-Immortality: The Primordial Gods possess an eternal lifespan and were incapable of dying from old age or natural causes.
    • Primal Power: The Primordial Gods embody absolute and original power; they are beings incomparably more powerful than Gods, Demons, Giants, or any other species in the universe.
    • Supernatural Agility: The primordial gods can execute incredibly fast and precise movements, capable of dodging or moving with a fluidity impossible for mortal beings.
    • Supernatural Strength: Their strength far surpasses that of any ordinary human or creature, enabling them to destroy massive structures or defeat powerful adversaries in hand-to-hand combat.
    • Supernatural Durability: Their bodies can withstand impacts, pressures, and injuries that would annihilate any other being, making their flesh virtually indestructible.
    • Supernatural Speed: They move at extremely high speeds, surpassing the perception of many beings, and able to react instantly to any threat. Supernatural Reflexes: Their reflexes are almost instantaneous, allowing them to avoid attacks or react to unpredictable situations with perfect precision.
    • Supernatural Endurance: Their bodies can continue to function even after serious injuries or extreme conditions, pushing the boundaries of survival.
    • Supernatural Senses: All their senses are extremely heightened, allowing them to perceive invisible details, inaudible sounds, or presences imperceptible to others.
    • Individual abilities: the primordial gods possess unique powers and abilities.
    • Power of Creation: The Primordial Gods were able to create the universe from the primordial chaos.
      • Creation of Life: They were also said to be capable of creating entire species of new beings. As mentioned previously, Gaia was the creator of the Giants. Later, Siegfried confirmed that the 88 Primordial Gods were responsible for the creation of the other minor deities.
      • Creation of Realms: With their powers, the Primordial Gods can create realms, and since the primordial chaos, they have shaped the different realms of the universe such as Valhalla, Midgard, and Helheim.
