“ | That is mine. I deserve it. I took the rest of the SandWing treasure. I tricked mother into flying to her death alone. I used my brain to get out of facing Burn in a challenge duel, by turning our fight into a war. I am the smartest dragon in Pyrrhia. I am the rightful SandWing queen. | „ |
~ Princess Blister |
Blister is a major antagonist in Wings of Fire, serving as one of the three main antagonists of The Dragonet Prophecy arc and an overarching antagonist for the remainder of the series.
She was a princess of the Kingdom of Sand, and one of the three candidates for the Queen of the SandWings. She was viciously intelligent and coldhearted, determined to kill her sisters at any cost. She was manipulative and cruel.
She was killed by an ancient SandWing artifact, the Eye of Onyx, which judges dragons that touch it and kill anyone who is unfit to rule. It reduces her to black dust in the sands of the SandWing Stronghold's courtyard.
Personality[]
Blister was described as the smartest and most cunning of the three SandWing sisters, and proved to be very intelligent throughout the series, often referred to as one of the smartest dragons on the continent. She was very controlling and manipulative. Within her own ranks, she convinced each soldier that they were her personal spy to report any sign of dissonance or betrayal within her army. With her soldiers, every mistake was punishable by death.
Biography[]
Background[]
Blister was the second oldest daughter of Queen Oasis, and was also the least trustworthy of her three children in her mother's eyes. Oasis had always thought that Blister would be the one to kill her, ever since she learned that to become a queen, all one had to do was kill the current one. After Oasis was killed at the hands of a human, Blister stole all of the SandWing treasure and became embroiled in a conflict for the SandWing throne with her two sisters, Burn and Blaze.
During the beginning of the war, Blister allied herself with the SeaWings and MudWings. However, during the last nine or so years of the war, a conflict between the two tribes made the MudWings abandon them and side with Princess Burn instead.
The Dragonet Prophecy[]
During the last months of the war, Blister's NightWing ally Morrowseer reveals his plot to make her queen. Morrowseer summons the dragonets of destiny's guardian, Kestrel, to confirm the dragonet's whereabouts. After Kestrel confirms this, Blister kills her quickly. She then negotiates with Morrowseer about the prophecy, and they agree to an alliance.
The Lost Heir[]
A few days later, Blister visited the Summer Palace to concur with Queen Coral and to check up on her daughter's progress with her magic powers. While she was there, she met the dragonets of destiny for the first time, who happened to be sleeping in her cave. Blister decided to have breakfast with the dragonets, attempting to get to know them better and convince them to choose her as the SandWing queen. Afterwards, Blister watched Anemone's animus magic training session, believing it to be "impressive, but not much more so than last time." After leaving the session, Blister spotted an unnatural movement in the Summer Palace canopy. Believing it was a spy, she flew up to the canopy and revealed the dragon to the others, who happened to be Webs. After Blister realized who Webs was, she remembered the plan to kill the dragonet's guardians' and convinced Coral to execute him.
Later, when the dragonets of destiny attempt to leave, Blister convinces Queen Coral to lock them up in the prison for their own safe-keeping. When the Summer Palace is attacked, she severely wounds Webs with her venomous stinger tail as he was trying to escape, in a last-ditch attempt to kill him. Though the wound itself was not fatal, the venom was, and Webs suffered from it after their escape. She reappeared in the epilogue, standing over the now-destroyed Summer Palace with Morrowseer and a leader of the Talons of Peace. They discuss an extra set of failsafe dragonets the Talons had made, just in case. They discuss the merits of the original dragonets, and which ones Blister wants dead.
The Dark Secret[]
A few weeks later, Blister was discussing the plan with Nautilus while considering destroying a human village. Blister stated that she wanted all of the original dragonets dead. She also lost her alliance with the SeaWings, as they had disappeared into the deep and hadn't contacted her ever since the attack on the Summer Palace. Blister had continually sent messengers and scouts to the above-water SeaWing settlements, but to no avail.
The Brightest Night[]
A week later, Blister conceived a plan to kill her sister Burn, by sending a box containing two dragonbite vipers as an anonymous donation to her collection of horrors. The next day, Blister was invited to the SandWing Palace by the dragonets of destiny for the choosing of the SandWing queen.
She gave Burn a gift, but Burn had recognized the sound of a dragonbite viper inside. Burn pinned one of them in her talons, but did not realize that there were two. The second one killed her, ending Burn's life in extreme agony, with Blister watching in delight.
Blister then turned to attack her sister Blaze, knowing that she was the last obstacle to the throne. Their fight was pathetically one-sided, as Blaze had never engaged in any sort of combat training, and became faint at the sight of blood. However, the battle stopped when Blister noticed that the Eye of Onyx, a magic object that could only be held by the SandWing queen, was being given to a non-royal dragon named Thorn.
Angered, Blister attacked Thorn and ripped the Eye from her talons, not knowing its full enchantment. The Eye was enchanted by an animus dragon long ago to kill any dragon it touched unfit to be queen. It slowly disintegrated Blister to dust, while she screamed and thrashed silently. She died, and Thorn became the SandWing queen.

Quotes[]
“ | I like that. A traitor in their midst. Tear them apart from the inside. My kind of plan. | „ |
~ Princess Blister to Morrowseer about Starflight and the Dragonets of Destiny |
“ | Not a problem. What's one more dead dragon here or there on my way to the throne? | „ |
~ Princess Blister to Morrowseer |
“ | I'm sure you've heard things about me, too. But you can't always trust rumors and propaganda, especially when it comes to a big responsibility like the prophecy. So ask me anything you like. I'd be delighted to help you make your decision — although of course I hope you'll choose me. | „ |
~ Princess Blister to the Dragonets of Destiny |
“ | Forgive her, Coral. It can be very shocking, seeing a dead body of a dragon you know. Especially when you've probably wanted to slash her throat yourself once or twice in your lifetime — right, Tsunami? I know I felt that way about my mother most of the time. | „ |
~ Princess Blister to Queen Coral about Tsunami forgetting to tell her who Kestrel was |
“ | Don't you have one more question for them? Why they killed all of your heirs. I mean, obviously it was them, right? Working together. It's the perfect climax to the story. Just like one of your brilliant mysteries. The Claws of Murder, for instance. Or A Tail of Blood. That one was genius. It was so that Tsunami could return as the only living heir, of course. If they killed off all the other possible heirs, she would become more and more valuable. A bargaining chip if they ever needed it. A powerful tool when they wanted to use her. | „ |
~ Princess Blister to Queen Coral about Riptide and Webs |
“ | I don´t have to fight you. You have no right to this throne. The Eye of Onyx is mine! | „ |
~ Princess Blister to Thorn; her last words before his death |
“ | For now, I'm finally just one step away from the throne that is rightfully mine. And that step, of course, is killing you. | „ |
~ Princess Blister to Princess Blaze, her sister |
“ | How interesting. I wonder if anyone involved would consider it. Peace by negotiation. How ... undragonly. | „ |
~ Princess Blister to King Gill |
“ | SandWings, search the island. Thoroughly. Turn over every log; climb every tree; wade into every pool. Find the dragon who did this. It will be a SkyWing, or an IceWing, or one of my sisters' SandWings — any SandWing who doesn't belong here. When you find that dragon, bring it to me, and I will kill it, and then we can move on from this foolish distraction. | „ |

Trivia[]
- Blister is the second-oldest of the three SandWing princesses. The other dragonet in her hatching was her brother Smolder, which explains why they were the only two to have black diamond patterns on their scales and wings.
- Blister prefers other dragons to do her dirty work, and always avoids open combat if she can help it, which is why she has no battle scars.
