Citizens of the Clover Kingdom! Surrender immediately and offer your magical power as a tribute. Resistance is futile. My Legion Magic Soldiers will keep on fighting until their last bit of energy is spent!
~ Princia as she led her Magic Soldiers into attacking the Clover Kingdom.
What I seek is a society free from oppression, where no one seeks to lord another individual. I trust that you can achieve that as part of your plan, Conrad?
~ Princia to Conrad, revealing her motives in aiding him.

Princia Funnybunny is one of the secondary antagonists in the 2023 anime fantasy movie Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King. She was originally a fearsome, powerful warrior and a member of the Blue Roses before becoming the 11th Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom.

She later had her status invoked, due to her outburst towards her strategists, and would eventually be killed by bandits in a village where she was held as prisoner. She was eventually revived by Conrad Leto, along with Jester Garandros and Edward Avalaché, and aided him in his goal of creating a world without oppression.

She is voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro in the Japanese version of the movie and by Mara Junot in the English version of the movie. The former also provided the voices of Beelzebul/Raiden Shogun from Genshin Impact, their inspiration Raiden Mei from Honkai series, Mosquito Girl from One-Punch Man, Krystalinda from Dragon Quest XI, Genocide Jack from Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Charlotte Pudding from One Piece, Ultear Milkovich from Fairy Tail, and Isabella "Ivy" Valentine from Soulcalibur series. The latter also provided the voices of Sindel from Mortal Kombat 11, Lyssa Drak from Green Lantern: Beware My Power, and Evelynn from League of Legends.

Personality[]

Princia is a ruthless woman with a strong demeanor and often acts in a formal, charismatic manner to that of a profound leader with integrity. She even holds the well-meant ideal of creating a world where oppression would seize, wanting to end the cycle of those suffering from certain circumstances of being overwhelmed by corrupt nobles. Despite this, she is not above attacking the entire Clover Kingdom and aiding in having thousands of civilians drained of their magic and killing numerous Magic Knights.

Despite her ruthless nature, Princia does have a sense of pride and respect for those that prove their worth. Her battle with Mereoleona demonstrated this, as she showed a more thrilling side to herself and was impressed by Mereoleona being able to match with her strength. Due to this, she showed respect to said opponent upon acknowledging them to the decision of accepting her death once again when Conrad's magic wore off.

History[]

Past[]

Princia in the past

Princia stands above a pile of her deceased opponents in the past.

Princia was the eldest child of a fallen noble family, which the latter desired to lead and rule their lands to a much more peaceful environment, however, they were taken advantage of by greedy nobles who took possession of their lands. To no end of their family's harassment by those nobles, Princia took a stand to fight and protect her family and her people. Upon receiving her grimoire, she joined the Blue Rose and sooner or later, she grew to fame that strengthen her influence over others to where the royalists were forced by no choice but to crown her as a Wizard King.

During a war she went against with the Diamond Kingdom's forces, her whole family and her people were taken hostage by the latter's forces, which the generals of the Clover Kingdom did not inform her of this in fear of her leaving the front lines during wartime, as a result, she lost her family and her people at that point.

Knowing about this later, she raged against the very generals who did not inform her of this and was stripped of her status as the Wizard King and imprisoned with her magic sealed before she could retaliate, though when the village she was imprisoned in was attacked, she ended up sacrificing her life in the process to protect the people there. Decades later, she is revived by Conrad Leto and joins him in his cause of creating a better world under the same mutual beliefs, one which she desired where oppression seized.

Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King[]

Princia is first seen with the other Wizard Kings led by Conrad, invading the Festival Stadium as she used her Legion Magic to summon dozens of her magic automaton soldiers to attack the civilians before Asta intervened, fighting against them, which surprised her that she couldn't believe her own automatons were defeated by someone with no magic. Later on, Princia had produced more of her soldiers and then has her forces attack the Clover Kingdom, aiding Conrad in stealing the populace's magic while killing off the Magic Knights on the way within the Triumph, Conrad's floating fortress. She's later gathered with Jester and Edward in the Triumph's throne room where she wanted to be reassured by Conrad if she trusts him to achieve her motives of ridding oppression as part of their plan.

Princia attacking the kingdom

Princia eventually had her Magic Soldiers surround elsewhere in the kingdom, the Black Bulls' base being one of them before her soldiers were attacked by Vangeance, Jack, and Charlotte as an opening for Asta and the rest to take on Conrad and his allies. She then reports to him that the rebelling Magic Knights made countermeasures and are on their way to them, which she and Edward prepare to deal with them before they are transported elsewhere to different areas by Nero. Teleported to a desert, Princia faced against Mereoleona Vermillion, where she tests her strength when accusing her of any use of "tricks" to their battle, summoning hundreds of her Magic Soldiers before Mereoleona single-handedly blast all of them away into ash as she proceeds to face her in combat.

Just when Princia had the upper hand and stabs Mereoleona from behind, the latter uses her strongest magic attack, Calidos Brachium Purgatory, to wipe off any opposing Magic Soldier clean from the battle before surviving the assault, using her magic to create a set of armor for herself as Princia proceeds to deliver a blowing punch at Mereoleona, starting to feel thrilled of fighting against her. Though as she effortlessly beats her opponent before leaving, she is then surprised by Mereoleona getting back on her feet as the two continuously fought again, throwing various punches at each other before Mereoleona delivered a strong one that sent her falling into a pit hole. Princia, impressed by Mereoleona's strength, wasn't done yet as she uses her magic to form a gigantic automaton as she goes all-out.

Moments later after Conrad lost control of his Magic thanks to Asta's Anti-Magic neutralizing it, Princia, defeated by Mereoleona at some point, begins to vanish with her whole body disintegrating to light, accepting her death peacefully. She is later seen as a spirit with Jester and Edward who were with Conrad at his final moments, departing to the afterlife together.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Legion Magic: Princia has one of the most unique attributes of magic and one that reached her potential, she has the ability to produce magic-induced automaton soldiers resembling chess pawns. She can even mass-produce hundreds to thousands of them in one-go.

Trivia[]

  • Due to being the 11th Wizard King, Princia is the eldest of Conrad's group chronologically.
  • There were early sketches of Princia, which she was supposedly meant to look like a young girl (likely in her teens or early adulthood). However, the current intentions were to make Princia be like this "cool adult woman" figure, one that would be a different type of a stronger woman compared to Mereoleona Vermillion. Afterward, the latter and current version of Princia was finalized.
    • Additionally, in a Q&A section from the light novels asked about the prototype and current versions of Princia's personalities, it's said that the prototype was described as a "kawaii" character. However, because it's thought that the Wizard King is a person recognized by all, it's one of the reasons for the latter version being chosen to make the "dignified Princia".
