You've managed to upset the whole school with your God forsaken noise."
~ Togar's infamous quote.

Principal Evelyn Togar is the main antagonist of the 1979 film Rock 'n' Roll High School.

She is portrayed by Mary Woronov, who also played Mary Bland in the 1982 comedy film Eating Raoul.

Personality[]

Togar is shown to be cruel, strict and uptight woman who despises anything the teenagers are into. She claims that rock music is the main source of child rebelion and criminal activity and would unlawfully punish students for their passion for the music.

This hatred for rock music leads to an obsession that tests her sanity, which would lead for Togar to commit various crimes to get her point across.

Biography[]

Vince Lombardi High School keeps losing principals to nervous breakdowns because of the students' love of rock 'n' roll and their disregard for education. Togar becomes the new principal and immediately becomes enemies with the film's protagonist, Riff Randall. She immediately becomes disgusted with Riff's favorite punk rock band, the Ramones and she then makes it her mission to take them and Riff down.

Togar notices that Riff has skipped school to obtain tickets for the Ramones concert, and angrily confronts her and her best friend, Kate after they given tickets to all the students (including their teacher, Mr.McGree). Mr.McGree tries to tell Ms.Togar that the concert is on the students own time outside of school, though Togar proceeds to steal Riff and Kate's tickets, however they win a new pair on a radio contest much to Togar's surprise.

Finally Togar manages to steal the students copies of the Ramones records and sets a bombfire on campus, despite objections from Mr.McGree and the parents. The students then start a riot and barricade themselves in the school, where they destroy all the school's files and records of the students. The Ramones then show up to play a free concert at the school and make Riff an honorary Ramone, much to the dismay of Togar.

When the police are summoned and demand that the students evacuate the building, they do so, but then the students and the Ramones burn down the school as a final act of youthful rebellion. Togar is last seen having a mental breakdown and is lead away in a straight jacket.

It's likely that she was fired from being the principal after being committed into a mental institution.
