Professor Byron Anders is a minor antagonist in the first campaign of the D&D web series Critical Role, serving as the main antagonist of Episode 33, "Reunions". He is also a major antagonist in the first season of its animated adaptation The Legend of Vox Machina.
He was once Percival and Cassandra de Rolo's teacher, but after their parents found his experiment dangerous, they shut it down. Anders, who found his project valuable, was angered by this, and exacted revenge and joined the Briarwoods in murdering the de Rolo family, making him one of Percival's targets for revenge.
He was voiced by Stephen Root, who also portrayed Unity and Reverend Amos Howell in Superman: The Animated Series, Mildew in Dreamworks Dragons, Mr. Fyde/Avacadwoe in The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, Buck Strickland in King of the Hill, Martin Mertens in Adventure Time, and will voice Grampa in Dog Man.

Anders was once Percival and Cassandra's tutor at Whitestone when the siblings were teens. But after their parents shut down Anders' experiment, this made Anders angry, wishing to exact revenge on the de Rolo family. When Lord & Lady Briarwood orchestrated the murder of the family, Anders found his chance and joined them, leading to Percival's hatred of his former professor.
Reunions[]
Vox Machina searched for Cassandra de Rolo, who Anders had at knifepoint while hiding in his room with her. Anders whispered to his hostage to stay silent, which Vax managed to hear. The rogue burst into the room and grabbed his teammates' attention by letting them know he found them. But Anders was one step ahead of them. He cast a dominate person spell on Grog, and a minor illusion spell to make it look like he slit Cassandra's throat. After this, he was shot dead by Percival.
The Legend of Vox Machina[]
Anders is first shown in a flashback teaching Percival and Cassandra de Rollo about reiduem and it's potential in advancing magical properties. After dissmising them he attempts to presuade the De Rolo family to fund his experiments on residuem only to be turned down due to thier worries about the project and the saftey of thier citizens causing Anders to quickly resign his position in anger. Some times later he joined the Briarwoods in thier Coup d'état on the De Rolos and with the help of Anna Ripley manages to start his projects of refine the residuem from whitestone to begen his experiments.
After Vox Machina manages to defeat his men and suround him, Anders quickly takes a captive Cassandra hostage just as Percival take a step forward making him slit Cassandra's neck open as he magicly controls several suits of armor to fight the group. Cassandra is stablised by the druid Kelyth as Andrers using his magic silver tongue to mind control her, Grog, Vex, and Vax ordering them to kill Percival. Percival is slowly crushed by Grog as Anders starts to tuant him as the demon Orthax posseses Percival and uses his pepperbox to fire a shot which ricochets and shoots off Anders tounge dispelling his control.
As the group began to come to thier sences Percival walks up to a scarred Anders, wearing a plauge mask, embelling him in smoke and states to the professor that he nothing but a coward and a fraud before putting his pepperbox under his former mentor's jaw and pulls the trigger, causing Anders' head to explode upwards as his body falls out of the building.
Personality[]
In his early years as a teacher, he was very interested in his experiment with whitestone and residuem, which he may have tried to rub off on Percival and Cassandra. But when their parents shot down Anders' project, he grew bitter and resentful towards the de Rolo family. After the Briarwoods took over, Anders became vengeful and sadistic, gleefully slitting Cassandra's throat in front of her brother while refusing to talk things out with him. He also took great pleasure in charming people with his silver tongue.
