Professor Genki is a recurring antagonist in the Saints Row series.

Originally a professor at a university, Genki performed a bizarre experiment with his pet cat in order to escape mortality, and in turn, became a human and cat hybrid with unspeakable power. He is the creator of the game show Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax and its related series, and is worshiped as a god by his followers.

History[]

Background[]

Professor Genki was once an ordinary man who worked as a professor at the Science University College of Science. He had a pet cat whom he loved dearly, and was always in the classroom with him as he taught. Genki had a deep fear of his own mortality, and in order to subvert it, created a machine which merged both him and his cat into a single being. What emerged was an anthropomorphic cat man, half human, half feline. The procedure was a success, and Genki not only gained immortality, but also gained incredible superhuman powers as well. This caused many to worship him as a god, his followers spreading to the point where he replaced the Pope as the spiritual leader of Earth.

Genki would eventually create his own television show, Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax, an ultra violent gameshow that saw contestants run through gauntlet style arenas killing everyone and everything in their path; The more they killed and more destruction they caused, the greater their payout. The show became wildly successful, spawning its very own series.

Saints Row: The Third[]

The 3rd Street Saints, a gang from the city of Stilwater, are huge fans of Professor Genki's show due to their own destructive nature. When the 3rd Street Saints relocate to Steelport due to their rivals The Syndicate, the 3rd Street Saints Boss partakes in Professor Genki's Super Ethical Reality Climax, proving to be a capable player due to his own experiences committing mass murder and mayhem. Professor Genki is impressed with the Boss, so during the DLC Genkibowl VII he has the Boss become his own chauffeur and drive around the city causing mayhem before Genki meets his fan. The Boss gets involved in other activities for Genkibowl VII, and comes a champion.

Saints Row IV[]

When the alien warlord Zinyak invades the Earth with his army, Professor Genki forms a partnership with the invaders and Zinyak allows Genki to create a new gameshow in the Zin's simulation called Prof. Genki's Mind Over Murder. When the Saints Row Boss is imprisoned in Zinyak's simulation, he takes part in Genki's new gameshow, which is hosted (against their will) by his commentators from his Super Ethical Reality Climax days.

When in a training simulation created by Asha Odekar, Genki, on the behalf of Zinyak, enters the training programme and begins to disrupt it. During the battle with the Boss, Genki develops superpowers and becomes "Super-Genki" and continues attacking them. The Boss manages to gain back their own superpowers and successfully defeats Genki.

When the Boss, Johnny Gat, Shaundi and Fun Shaundi are trapped in a Genki arena by Zin forces, Genki makes an appearance. Shaundi claims that Genki is trying to help the Saints, although the Boss doesn't trust him due to Genki's past betrayal and fires upon him and kills Genki. Despite his demise, Zach and Bobby claim that Genki won't be gone forever.

Saints Row: Gat out of Hell[]

Genki is shown to be damned to Hell following his death in Saints Row IV, and is residing in the city of New Hades. Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington arrive in Hell in order to rescue to the Boss after they are captured by Satan, and are able to cross paths with Genki and fight him if they raise too much notoriety in the city.

Personality[]

Once a sane man, Professor Genki is almost pure chaos in physical form. A hardcore sadist, mass death and destruction pleases him greatly, and he is all too happy to partake in it, or create some himself. His ultra violent tendencies, as well as his uncontrollable hunger for wet cat food and human brains were side effects from his machine, and cannot be reversed in any shape or form. Despite all this however, one thing remained from his previous form; his love for his pet cat, and he was overjoyed the procedure was a success and now he can spend eternity with it as one being. Also, even though his taste for extreme violence makes him a grave threat, he is a capable and charismatic leader to his followers.

Trivia[]

  • Professor Genki can randomly spawn in the city of Steelport in Saints Row: The Third and Saints Row IV, in which the player has the option of fighting and killing him. Despite this, Genki isn't canonically killed and there is a chance he will respawn later.
  • Saints Row: Gat out of Hell refers to Genki as "Satan's Top Agent" during a challenge.
