In "Talkin' 'Bout an Evolution," Professor Sebastian oversees Project R, an experiment aimed at inducing evolution in Pokémon. The project involves an Evolution Inducement Wave machine, which weakens the health of surrounding Pokémon and forces a Magikarp to evolve into a shiny red Gyarados. Professor Sebastian is deeply invested in the success of this project, seeing it as a major breakthrough for Team Rocket's scientific endeavors.
Throughout the course of the experiment, Tyson, one of Team Rocket's team leaders, and several grunts assist Professor Sebastian in capturing the shiny Gyarados. Ash and his friends attempt to interfere with Team Rocket's plans, but they are captured and imprisoned in the Team Rocket laboratory surrounding the Lake of Rage. However, their efforts do not go unnoticed, as Lance, disguised as a Team Rocket grunt, works to gather information and find solutions to combat Project R.
In "Rage of Innocence," the captured shiny Gyarados wakes up and shakes violently in an attempt to break free from the capture net. Lance uses his Dragonite to destroy the laboratory and defeat the two Fearow sent out by Tyson to attack Ash and his friends. Ranger Mason, who had been tracking Team Rocket's activities, steps in to assist in their efforts. Ultimately, Professor Sebastian, Tyson, and the rest of the Team Rocket grunts are arrested for their crimes.
