Project Phoenix are the main antagonists of Call of Duty: Vanguard and supporting antagonists of Call of Duty: Warzone.

Origins[]
In 1941, shortly after the United States joined World War II, Hermann Freisinger became dissilusioned with Adolf Hitler's motives. Freisinger then secretly formed Project Phoenix in the main goal in killing Hitler and forming the Fourth Reich. Freisinger would also gather Intel and files from other Nazi projects, such as Project Aether and Project Nova.
Over the course between 1941 and 1944, Freisinger went on the recruit several Nazi Party officials, such as Erwin Rommel. In 1942, plans from the project where captured by the Australian 8th Army managed to gather evidence from the project, and later gave it to the British Army. Carver Butcher managed to get his hands on the files and started recruiting several mercenaries and forming task forces to take down the project. Later that year, Freisinger recruited Leo Steiner and Hezel. Steiner, on behalf of both Hitler and Freisinger, invaded Stalingrad, killing Polina Petrova's entire family, establishing a died between them.
In 1943, Polina and her brother, Mikhail Petrov, managed to track Steiner down. However, Mikhail committed suicide to protect Polina after being fatally wounded. Polina would infiltrate the building alone and take the fight to Steiner, critically wounding him. After a brief confrontation, Polina kicked him off the ledge, where Steiner plummeted to his death. In 1944, Rommel committed suicide in order to keep his reputation in tact and in March of that year, Butcher tracked down Hezel and teamed up with Polina in killing him.
Disbandment[]
After recruiting Arthur Kingsley, Polina Petrova, Richard Webb, Milos Novák, Wade Jackson and Lucas Riggs in what he dubbed Task Force Vanguard, Butcher sent them to Hamburg, Germany to gather Intel against Project Phoenix. However, the task force was captured and Freisinger beat Novák to death with a chair. He would then hand them over to Jannick Richter for interrogation, which would lead to the death of Webb. In May of 1945, Task Force Vanguard managed to escape from their cell and stabbed Jannick to death and hunted Freisinger down. After capturing him, Polina and Kingsley burned him alive and took a plane containing several documents and files regarding Project Phoenix.
Legacy[]
After the second world war, the Nazi's remained inspired by Project Phoenix and developed Nebula V. However, they remnants of the project would be dispersed of and hunted down by Butcher and several task forces.
