Prometheus is an anti-villainous major character of the manga Record of Ragnarok Forbidden Legend - Apocalypse of The Gods, a spin-off of the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.

Prometheus is a God belonging to the Greek Pantheon, as well as the first among the Gods to have been accused of being an Outer God for stealing fire and giving it to Humanity, making it more arrogant. He is also one of the 16 Gods who participate in the Apocalypse Tournament to win the last place in the Gods Fighters of the Ragnarok Tournament and the possibility of creating a new law in the Constitution of Valhalla.

Appearance[]

Prometheus is a humanoid-looking God with short bob hair, an imposing presence and a hint of a beard. He wears a toga over a short-sleeved shirt, laces wrapped around both forearms, knee-length pants, laces that wrap around both legs from the knees to the heels, and sandals. When he fights he carries with him a straight chain with two handcuffs on both wrists of his hands.

Personality[]

Prometheus is a God who hates the Gods more than anything else in the world and plots revenge against them for punishing him following the theft of fire that Prometheus committed to donate it to Humanity. Prometheus loves Humanity madly, and he doesn't care if his action has made them more arrogant, he is willing to make them continually make mistakes and to suffer the punishment of the Gods himself, being also ready to do anything to save them. After winning the Apocalypse Tournament he intends to cancel the Ragnarok Tournament to save Humanity.

He is also empathetic, having taken Cú Chulainn to the infirmary after seeing his condition and trying to convince him not to fight suicidally like he usually does. Prometheus is a great friend of Heracles as the two share a love for Humanity, but Prometheus is convinced that he, unlike his friend, always helps them in the wrong way, ending only to make his situation worse.

Biography[]

Prometheus is a God belonging to the Greek Pantheon and the first God to have been accused of being an Outer God, as Prometheus stole fire and gave it to Humanity. This allowed them to build weapons of mass destruction and made them become more arrogant, which is why the Gods decided to punish Prometheus, a decision accepted by Prometheus in order to guarantee the salvation of the Humanity he loves. At some point he became friends with Heracles.

After the proclamation of the Ragnarok Tournament, Prometheus participates in the meeting of the Gods' Council in which Zeus announces the Gods Fighters that would fight in the Ragnarok Tournament representing the Gods. When many Gods become angry at the absence of their names, Sun Wukong points out that one name is missing from the list, and it is at that point that Zeus announces the Apocalypse Tournament between 16 Gods to win the last place in the Gods Fighters and the possibility of inserting a new law into the Constitution of Valhalla.

Prometheus also participates, with the aim of winning the Tournament and asking for the abolition of the Ragnarok Tournament to save Humanity. At the end of the first battle of the Apocalypse Tournament between Cú Chulainn and Ra-Horakhty, ultimately won by Cú Chulainn, Prometheus takes the Celtic Demigod to the infirmary at Geis's suggestion and, as soon as Cú Chulainn recovers, Prometheus tries to warn him that if he continues to fight like this he will lose the Apocalypse Tournament, but the Celtic Demigod decides not to listen to him. Immediately afterwards, Prometheus is joined by Heracles, enrolled in the Ragnarok Tournament as Gods Fighter, and expresses his doubts about the way in which he is helping Humanity and which he believes is wrong, but Heracles encourages him to continue on his path.

In the Round of 16 Prometheus faces Sun Wukong, and before the start of the match he warns all the Gods that he will protect Humanity at all costs and is willing to be punished for them.

Powers and Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: As a God, Prometheus possesses physical abilities far superior to those of any ordinary Human. His body cannot be damaged by mortal weapons, however it can still be damaged by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and Divine Weapons. For the same reason, Prometheus is unable to die due to old age. He has such high resistance that he was able to withstand all the punishments that the Gods inflicted on him for having given fire to Humanity.

Godly Strength, Speed and Reflexes: Prometheus possesses enormous physical strength thanks to his physical structure, having managed to grab an entire bed, thrown at him by Cú Chulainn, with one hand. Despite his large size, Prometheus displays incredible speed and reflexes, having managed to move as fast as Cú Chulainn to grab the bed. Prometheus' reflexes are so strong that he was able to see Cú Chulainn's Gáe Bulg despite it lasting five seconds at most.

Chains Master: Prometheus is an expert in using chains, his main weapon in battle. He is able to throw at high speed to block opponents.

Trivia[]

  • Prometheus in Greek Mythology stole fire from the Gods to give it to the Human race and his action, which occurred in antithesis to Zeus and is placed at the beginning of Humanity, represents the origin of the Human existential condition.
    • Precisely for this reason, in the history of Western culture, Prometheus can be considered a symbol of rebellion and challenge to authorities or impositions, as well as a metaphor of thought and archetype of knowledge freed from the constraints of myth, falsification and ideology.
  • Although Prometheus does not behave as an antagonist in Record of Ragnarok, he can be considered as such since, being a member of the Gods' Council, he voted for the extermination of Humanity despite his hatred towards the Gods.
    • However, this contradicts the fact that Prometheus loves Humanity to the point of justifying their every mistake and accepting punishment for them. Consequently, we need to understand why, despite being part of the Gods' Council that unanimously voted for the extermination of Humanity, he voted in favor.
