~ Prometheus encourages Melinoe to do battle with him.

Prometheus is the secondary antagonist of the 2025 roguelike action role-playing game Hades II.

He is the Titan of Foresight, who defied the will of Hestia and all of Olympus to bestow fire and forbidden knowledge to humanity, leading to him being chained to the summit of Mount Olympus and stuck in an eternal cycle of torture with the eagle, Aetos. After being freed by Heracles, he managed to locate Chronos, who offered him the chance to take revenge on the gods in exchange for becoming a commander of his golden legions. Now, he sides with his fellow Titan in the war against the gods, ruling the surface with an iron fist alongside his newly tamed familiar, Aetos.

He is voiced by Ben Starr.

Personality[]

Prometheus is overall a deeply complex and tragic figure who defines himself by the intelligence, defiance, and consequences of his past actions. Using his gifts, he brought humanity fire, arts and knowledge to gain admiration despite facing Zeus' wrath. Many characters in the story say that his punishment had fundamentally changed him and made him into a different person. Driven by centuries of torment, his current motives are coated with resentment and he has aligned himself with Chronos. It is speculated by Moros that Chronos had chose Prometheus because of how much he was loved by mortals, which in part aligns him with his goal of the "Golden Age" - an age for mortals and not for Gods.

Appearance[]

Prometheus is depicted as a muscular man within his 20s-30s with a lean athletic build. His skin is pale in color, and his physique is well defined. He has curly, dark blue hair that emits a faint warm glow, indicating a connection to the power of fire. His eyes are glowing red, and he usually exhibits an intense yet determined expression. Prometheus is shirtless, with a large scar across his chest as a result of Aetos eating his liver every day. He has a bandage wrapped around his shoulder and upper arm, possibly as a result of wounds inflicted during his punishment. He also wears a belt with numerous trinkets. His lower half is covered by a sash imbibed with an hourglass logo - which is the sigil of Chronos and his Golden Legions. He also has white and blue flaming gauntlets, which are partially torn. His left hand can be seen wielding blue fire. He often allows Aetos to perch on him. Aetos is golden in color with its wings partially spread.

Biography[]

Before Hades I & II[]

Much of his life is unknown before the first Titan War. Using his gift of foresight, he saw the olympians inevitable victory and as a result he chose to side with them. The Olympians fell into favor for him when they saw his clairvoyant abilities, from which they could use to their benefit. One day, he chose to steal fire from the Gods, thinking it would earn him favor by the mortals who he loved so dearly. However he was caught, and Zeus was enraged at him. Zeus sentenced him to be bound to a cliff with unbreakable chains where Aetos would be sent every day to eat his liver. Every night, he would gain brief rest and regenerate, only for the cycle to start again. At some point in time, he was freed from his punishment by Heracles. It was then that he started to gain a grudge towards the Olympians who imprisoned him for his mistreatment. He found Aetos, and forged a bond with them, training them within various attacks and defenses for the second Titan War.

Hades II[]

After Chronos was Resurrected, he approached Prometheus and offered him the chance to enact on the revenge he was feeling within his heart. Prometheus used his clairvoyant abilities and found that Chronos was going to win the war so he gladly accepted. When Chronos launched his attack on the Surface, Prometheus followed afterwards - assisting Chronos in slaughtering the civilians of Ephyra followed by commanding the Golden Legions to attack the sea of Thessaly. Finally arriving on Mount Olympus, using his crafting expertise he programmed Hephaestus' automatons to attack the Olympians and forced them onto the summit. Athena procceeded to escape, gathering her father's shield and wielding it in battle. Dionysus was extremely drunk, so he remained neutral not taking any side within the war.

Vow of Rivals[]

When Melinoe prevailed against all her foes, the Oath of the Unseen appeared within the crossroads. Using the Oath of the Unseen, Melinoe could make certain aspects of her night more difficult in an attempt to "spread fear" and honor the will of Nyx, who was imprisoned within the former House of Hades. One of these aspects was called the Vow of Rivals, which made Guardians (the bosses who guard the exit to the next area) significantly more difficult, adding extra attacks, more health and more.

Melinoe eventually activated the Vow of Rivals for the third area of the Surface, which gave Prometheus a significant upgrade to best his rival. He allied with Heracles, presumably as a way of thanking him for his assistance. She walked into Prometheus abode and saw Heracles and Prometheus standing together. Melinoe was at first confused, asking Heracles why he was here. Heracles laughed at Melinoe, and was confused as to how she could call Prometheus their foe. Heracles insisted that Prometheus was correct, and told her that they caught the two of them "in the act". Prometheus blackmailed her and told her to stay quiet because the damage caused by their alliance would be catastrophic to her family. Melinoe grew furious and called both of them traitors. She asked Heracles how he could betray Zeus despite him being his father. Heracles told her that Prometheus predicted the betrayal before the three clashed for the first time.

Heracles swung his club erratically and Melinoe found that he was immune to the lethal fire that Prometheus emitted from himself, posing an even greater threat than before. Depending on who is defeated first, Heracles will jump away, or Prometheus will kneel down on the ground begging Heracles to help him. Heracles apologized to Prometheus calling him a "flame thief" before jumping away. He grew angry at Melinoe, telling her that the gods never forgive, so neither should he - instead, he should fight it. He then vanished through his flames, leaving Melinoe to confront him again another night.

    • Pyrokinetic Punches - His most common attack is to utilize this fire within his punches, unleashing tracking projectiles that seek Melinoe.
    • Pyrokinetic Kicks - His secondary attack is to utilize fire with kicks, sending a wave of blue fire that speeds through the arena.
