In order to contain its prisoners, a powerful protective curse was cast upon the scroll to prevent those imprisoned from escaping and ensnare any who would seek to free those locked inside, trapping them forever. Left unchecked, that curse would have spread, consuming everything until nothing remained.
~ Azure Lion explaining the protective curse
You can see it, can't you? This is your fate. Your friends will turn on you, seeing you for the monster you will become. They will destroy you, Harbinger of Chaos. It's just like the Lady Bone Demon said. Despite your efforts, all you'll ever do is cause pain and suffering.
~ The Protective Curse

The Protective Curse is the secondary antagonist of Season 4 of Monkie Kid.

It was a curse that was cast into the Scroll of Memory by the Court of the Underworld to ensure that the prisoners within it couldn't escape. Unfortunately, when the curse was left unattended, it became highly unstable and posed a potential threat to the real world.

It was voiced by Jack DeSena.

Biography[]

Past[]

The Court of the Underworld devised a sacred artifact known as the Scroll of Memory. Its purpose was to meticulously document every event that unfolded throughout history, serving as a means to incarcerate individuals and force them to endlessly relive their wicked deeds as a form of retribution. To ensure the scroll's contents remained secure and the prisoners could not escape, the kings placed the protective curse upon it. This enchantment not only safeguarded the memories within the scroll but also bestowed upon it the extraordinary ability to confine anyone who dared to liberate the captives. Furthermore, the curse granted dominion over Ink Demons, enabling it to manipulate and control them. After many years, the Nine-Headed Demon decided to destroy the universe as part of his plan to return to the chaos beyond. To begin this plan, he released Azure Lion from the Underworld and entrusted him with the Scroll of Memory. Unaware of the Nine-Headed Demon's intentions, Azure Lion attempted to free Peng and Yellowtusk from the Scroll of Memory, where they were imprisoned by the Monkey King. Unfortunately, he lacked the power to break the curse. Fortunately, Azure Lion discovered that MK possessed the strength needed to destroy the curse.

Flower Fruit Mountain became the unexpected resting place for the stolen Scroll of Memory, which unfortunately remained unattended for a considerable period of time. This neglect led to the amplification of the protective curse. Consequently, the curse not only ensured the confinement of the intended prisoners but also ensnared anyone who happened to come into contact with the scroll whenever it was unfurled, effectively trapping them alongside the prisoners.

Season 4[]

MK and Mei embarked on a perilous journey into the Scroll of Memory to save their companions and destroy the protective curse so they could escape. However, the curse pursued them and launched an assault, causing them to be separated. Eventually, the curse managed to locate MK at Flower Fruit Mountain. Recently, MK discovered the hidden truths about his origins through the stone that Monkey King was born from. This revelation unveiled a significant destiny awaiting MK. Filled with apprehension, MK found himself confronted by the curse, which had taken on the appearance of his Monkey form. The protective curse inquired about MK's well-being, asking what was troubling him. The curse understood MK's wishes to return to their previous adventures. It mentions MK's missions with Mei, mastering Monkey King's powers, and delivering noodles for Pigsy. However, the curse stated that MK can't go back to that simplicity after knowing so much. It questions MK's identity and their friendship, to which MK denied, stating that the curse is not him nor his friend. The protective curse insisted that it was indeed MK's best friend or at least the closest one. It claimed to know more about MK than he was willing to admit to himself or others. MK countered, stating that the curse is not real, comparing it to Lady Bone Demon, emphasizing that it was just messing with him. The curse acknowledged this and challenged MK further, asking him to honestly reflect on his own identity. MK is taken aback by the question, finding it peculiar. He responded by saying that he is just MK, a simple noodle delivery guy with the powers of the Monkey King. Challenging this notion, the curse highlights MK's powers and questioning if that is what he truly means by being "just MK." Without warning, the curse lifts MK off his feet and strikes him with its powers, before relentlessly pursuing him.

As it battled MK, the protective curse scoffed at the notion that MK still believed he was just a humble noodle delivery guy. It questioned why MK, who possessed great power but had no memory of his origins, had never stopped to wonder about his true identity and purpose. MK admitted that he at least intended to. However, his main wish was simply to be himself and embrace his own identity. The protective curse dismissed this belief, pointing out that path would only lead to pain and suffering like Lady Bone Demon said. It pointed out that MK's actions had caused all the chaos and trouble that had unfolded, such as the Demon Bull King, empowering the Spider Queen, and allowing Lady Bone Demon to wreak havoc. As it said this, to took form of the demons he listed and Monkey King. The protective curse then compared MK to Wukong, accusing him of being a fraud, a trickster, and a force of destruction. It predicted that MK's legacy would surpass even Monkey King's, bringing chaos and devastation to the world rather than causing mischief. Despite MK's stammering denial of the accusations, the curse abruptly interjected, questioning whether MK truly believed he was not a demon fated to unleash chaos. However, MK's flickering appearance and the release of their power seemed to contradict his words. The protective curse seized upon this display of power, encouraging MK to embrace his true nature and destiny, whatever it may be.

Out of nowhere, Monkey King arrived. With his arrival, he managed to dismantle the protective curse. However, the curse regenerated itself, transforming into a colossal creature that possessed both the characteristics of the Spider Queen and Macaque. The newly formed protective curse wasted no time in emphasizing that without Monkey King's involvement, none of this chaos would have unfolded. The Monkie Kids arrived on the scene, ready to face the curse. Unyielding in their determination, the curse decided to separate the heroes, aiming to put an end to their endeavors. Utilizing the Ink Demons as vessels, the protective curse divided itself into groups of three, each group confronting a different set of opponents. The Ink Pilgrims taunted the Monkie Kids, the curse's amalgamation form confronted MK, while Ink Monkey King faced off against Monkey King himself. As Ink Monkey King, the curse condemns the heroes as cowardly and reckless monsters, fated to bring chaos and destruction to the world. Despite Monkey King's speech urging them to defy fate and make their own choices, the curse remains unaffected. It cruelly reminds Monkey King of his past, further demoralizing the group. However, the Monkie Kids and Monkey King refuse to succumb to despair. They vow to put on a brave face and persevere, asserting that they have faced far more daunting threats than the curse. They wield their weapons to shatter the curse's grip, gradually diminishing its power until it ultimately reverts back to Ink MK. Once again, the curse mocks MK, reminding him of the dreadful future that awaits him, where his friends will see him as a monstrous source of agony and torment. The curse insists that MK will never be able to break free from this inevitable fate. Filled with anger, MK transforms into his monkey form, commanding it to be silent. In response, the curse dares MK to prove himself wrong. MK obliterated the curse, erasing any evidence of its existence.
