Please... take my lord with you. And please... I beg of you... smite those Humans who killed Poseidon with the hammer of the Gods!!
~ Proteus urges Hades to avenge Poseidon during the Seventh Round of the Ragnarok Tournament.

Proteus is a minor antagonist in the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.

He is a supporting antagonist in the Seventh Round of the Ragnarok Tournament.

Proteus is the God of Rivers and Oceanic Bodies of Water, a prophetic Sea-God and the servant of Poseidon.

Appearance[]

Proteus appears as an elderly but handsome man-looking God, wearing an outfit fit for a butler. He has neatly combed back fur and fins instead of ears, as well as markings under his eyes. On his forehead is a cross-shaped mark.

Personality[]

Proteus presents himself as a calm and balanced Deity, bowing respectfully before Hades and speaking to him formally. However, just like the other Gods, he despises Humans and wishes for their extinction. He is very loyal to Poseidon, and begs Hades to avenge his late lord by using the remains of his Divine Weapon in battle.

Biography[]

Proteus is the God of Rivers and Oceanic Bodies of Water in Greek Mythology, as well as the direct servant of Poseidon. During the Ragnarok Tournament, following the death of Poseidon at the hands of Kojiro Sasaki during the Third Round, Proteus waits for Hades in the corridors of the Arena before the Seventh Round and, giving him the remains of Divine Weapon of Poseidon, encourages Hades to win his match by avenging Poseidon. Hades claims that Poseidon would not want to be avenged, but that as his older brother it is his duty to do so, and immediately after fuses his Divine Weapon with the remains of Poseidon's. In the end however, while Proteus watches the match from the stands, Hades is defeated and killed by Qin Shi Huang in the Seventh Round of the Ragnarok Tournament.

Powers and Abilities[]

Overall Abilities: As a God, Proteus has an unlimited lifespan and does not age. Furthermore, he possesses physical abilities far greater than any ordinary Human. His body cannot be damaged by mortal weapons, however it can still be damaged by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and by Divine Weapons.

Trivia[]

  • In some myths, Proteus is the son of Poseidon.
