Psycho-Pirate (real name Roger Hayden) is a deranged criminal and an inmate at Arkham Asylum. He is a minor antagonist in the 2018 Arrowverse crossover Elseworlds and Season 7 of The Flash.

In season 7 of The Flash, it was revealed that Roger Hayden was only a vessel for the spirit of an ancient meta-human contained in the golden Medusa Mask.

He was portrayed by Bob Frazer. While possessing Cecile Horton, he was portrayed by Danielle Nicolet.

History[]

Pre-Crisis[]

Early Life[]

Roger Hayden became the Psycho-Pirate after he came into possession of a golden mask, giving him powers and making him insane in the process. He began a criminal career and eventually was imprisoned in Arkham Asylum.

Elseworlds[]

In 2018, Hayden along with a dozen inmates, was released from his cell by John Deegan as a distraction after the latter was confronted by Oliver Queen and John Diggle. During the chaos, Hayden retrieves his mask, attacks multiple people and tries to escape by to commandeering a van, only to be stopped by Batwoman and placed back in Arkham. He is last seen in a cell near the now transformed Deegan and apparently befriends him, while speaking of a coming multiversal crisis.

Erased future[]

Roger Hayden was involved in the Crisis of 2024, when the Flash battled the Reverse-Flash before disappearing from the timeline. He was arrested afterwards (presumably for criminal activity of some sort), and claimed to have the ability to remember the events of that night in the way they were supposed to happen, while many others have claimed contradicting versions of the events (whether the Flash was assisted by Supergirl and the Atom, or a team of the Green Arrow, Batwoman, and the Elongated Man). Psycho Pirate claimed multiversal awareness, speaking that the crisis event resulted in whole worlds living and dying. The research of his account continued 25 years later.

Post-Crisis[]

New Host[]

During the War between the Forces of Nature, Cecile Horton was struck by a lightning from the telepathic cosmic entity called Sage Force, and Psycho-Pirate used it to possess her body. Some time later, he trapped Barry Allen/the Flash in his mental realm and manipulated Team Flash into stealing his Golden Mask from Central City Museum. Psycho-Pirate later broke into S.T.A.R. Labs and used The Thinker's Hoverchair to increase his powers, but Cecile was able to regain control of her body and the mask containing Psycho-Pirate's spirit was held in a A.R.G.U.S. facility.

New Allies[]

Psycho-Pirate later appeared in the EARTH-PRIME tie-in comics. Inside the Golden Mask, he was imprisoned at an A.R.G.U.S. facility and eventually escaped from his cell along Tony Woodward, Weather Witch, and Doctor Polaris. However, the team of villains was defeated by Phantom Girl and Vibe.

This is the first live action adaptation of Psycho-Pirate.
Hayden was originally planned to appear in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, but he was removed due to time constraint.
The Medusa Mask was seen as one of the artifacts in Jasper Winters' mill-house in the TV series Constantine.
