Villain Overview

Purple is the secondary antagonist of the Animation vs. Minecraft series, an Animator vs. Animation spin-off. He has also appeared as the main antagonist of Animation vs. League of Legends and a supporting protagonist in the Actual Shorts.

The child of two stick figures, Purple was raised by an abusive father who wanted him to grow up into a fighter, only to abandon him once he didn't meet his expectations. Following his mother's death, Purple has made it his life mission to find his father and impress him by proving himself to be tough and powerful - No matter who he has to backstab for this to happen. He is the former archenemy of Green and right hand man-turned-surrogate/possibly adoptive son of King Orange.

Appearance[]

Purple is a purple solid-headed stick figure of average height. He used to wear a crown while ruling over villagers until they dethroned him for almost destroying their village.

Personality[]

Purple has been constantly characterized as someone selfish and side-changing, betraying the Stick Gang more than once for his own sake, whether it is to get a prize or achieve some sort of power. Although Purple seemingly shows care towards his village before being overthrown, protecting it from the Ender Dragon by giving her egg back, he did the act very reluctantly, as his body language shows. Purple has been shown to be very determined to remain in power of the village, arresting Green and Blue just for dealing with the Villagers, but made them kings after the Villagers build a statue of Purple from the blocks they got from the two.

In Animation vs. League of Legends, Purple was noticeably both cruel and ridiculously petty in getting his revenge for being overthrown, considering beating them in a game of League of Legends to be his form of payback, but still showing brutality while doing so, hacking the game and making clones of himself that ruthlessly assaulted the Stick Gang while being willing to outright kill them if they try to fight back. That said, after the stick figures gave him a second chance following his defeat, he accepted it to have another match with them.

When Purple first appeared in Season 3, it looked like he ditched most of his redeeming qualities, manipulating the Stick Gang into being trapped in an endless loop, imprisoning their pig and ultimately planning to achieve some unknown power alongside King Orange - And, once the power was revealed to be a black hole sucking everything inside it, this might or might not mean he became outright omnicidal, for unknown reasons. However, his insecurities about being alone never disappeared, as he remained loyal to King Orange and genuinely viewed him as a friend willing to share the power of the Master Block with him, with it taking two betrayals for him to realize the monarch doesn't care for him at all.

However, "Note Block Universe" revealed his backstory, which once again portrayed him in a sympathetic light after his more cruel portrayal in "Parkour" and "The Ultimate Weapon". Purple is shown to be a determined person who wants to find his father before anything else, no matter what lines he has to cross and who he has to backstab. That said, he still feels immense remorse for it, believing himself to be someone who's evil, and instantly accepting Green's offer to atone for his crimes by helping him defeat King Orange. The episode also shows his past betrayals as not of someone selfish who puts himself above others, but as an unfettered individual who will do anything for his own, sympathetic gains, with the fates of everyone not involved being irrelevant. It's also heavily implied that Purple's past actions, such as ruling over a village or getting the Egg, were a twisted way to make Dark Blue proud by proving himself to be tough, showing his insecurities once again.

Trivia[]

  • Apparently, Purple had a rough childhood, according to series creator Alan Becker.
    • This implies he was the first stick figure to actually be a child at one point in his life, as all of the Animator's stick figures were created as "adults" (or at the very least, didn't mature and stayed the same as they were at "birth"), while the pasts of King Orange and the Fighting Stick Figures are unknown.
      • This is further supported by the fact that, in Animation vs. Trash, we do see young stick figures, although to be fair that was a dream.
    • All of this was confirmed with "Note Block Universe", showing his backstory and motivations.
  • It's still unknown just what Purple's card in the official card game meant. The most likely option is that Purple's backstory changed somewhere before the release of "Note Block Universe", with him being originally meant to be a black stick figure before he was retconned into being purple since birth.
  • While never explicitly stated, it's heavily implied Purple was adopted by King Orange following "The King" as they are seen hanging out together, they already see each other as family (and essentially replacements for their abusive father/dead son), and Purple was seen living in King Orange's house in "Cherry Blossoms".
