The Pyke Syndicate, also known as the Pyke Family, or simply as the Pykes, are supporting antagonists in the Star Wars franchise.
They are a criminal organization that were a spice dealership within the Spice Cartel that operated in the criminal underworld from their homeworld of Oba Diah. They also participated in the crime raids on Mandalore to start the Death Watch rule on said planet.
History[]
The Pyke Syndicate came from Oba Diah. In an unknown period of the Clone Wars, the syndicate joined Maul and the Death Watch and helped them take over Mandalore. The organization belonged to the Shadow Collective for an unknown period.
In 10 BBY, they conducted large-scale spice mining at the Kessel mine, where they used slaves to work in mines. They entered into a contract with King Yaruba, who made available to them a large part of the planet exclusively. They based their business on illegal business, which was guarded by mercenaries rented by them, equipped with A-300 rifles. They had special radiation-resistant equipment and counteracted attempts to steal their goods and attacks from competing syndicates.
Despite this, many competing organizations envied their profits from the spice trade and considered the syndicate unworthy to own such great wealth. At Kessel, the head of the operation was Quay Tolsite, who was one of the few who looked after the interest from the surface of toxic Kessel. He focused mainly on profits regardless of the suffering suffered by slave workers. Later a group of mercenaries invaded the area of the mines, secretly acting on behalf of Dryden Vos, who commanded the Crimson Dawn in consultation with the Pyke.
Under the pretext of finalizing the slave sale transaction, they got inside the mine and, after killing Quay, stole the coaxium load, initiating a destructive revolution of droids. After all, they took the cargo aboard their freighter, Millennium Falcon, and then flew off with him from Kessel.
After the deaths of Jabba the Hutt and Bib Fortuna, the Pyke Syndicate moved to take over the remnants of Jabba's empire after Mos Espa mayor Mok Shaiz promised the territory to them. In preparation for a Pyke takeover, Shaiz went to meet with them while having his majordomo and clerk run interference for him. The Pyke landed a large force on Tatooine, preparing to fight Boba Fett for control of Tatooine.
Finally, after a fierce fight, Boba and his forces win the Battle of Mos Espa, killing the half of Pyke's troops. The survivings retreat. Boba kills personally Cad Bane. Soon after, Fennec Shand kills Garfalaquox, the Unidentifed Klatooinian don, Dokk Strassi, Mok Shaiz and the Pyke Boss ending the Pyke threat on Tatooine once and for all.
Equipment[]
The Pyke Syndicate owned a large complement of Pyke starships and freighters to transport their enforcers and goods around the galaxy. Their troops were typically equipped with large pistols, but the Pyke sentinels typically possessed larger and more specialized weapons. Some sentinels were seen attempting to use a blaster turret during the riot on Kessel. Some Pyke sentinels on Kessel used stun spears to enforce the discipline of their slaves.
