| ~ Quanxi's philosophy on life. |
Quanxi (Chinese: 泉溪, Quán Xī) is a minor antagonist in the Chainsaw Man series, serving as the secondary antagonist of the International Assassins arc. She is an assassin known for having four girlfriends, with whom she has a passionate, sexual relationship, who was tasked with killing Denji and obtaining his heart by the Chinese government. She is also the first and strongest devil hunter, being Kishibe's former partner before quitting her job to become a mercenary.
Quanxi reappears as a supporting character in Part 2 Academy Saga. Following Makima's death, she has since returned to working as a Public Safety Devil Hunter.
Appearance[]
Quanxi appears as a tall woman with cream pony-tailed hair and an eye patch that covers her right eye with the other eye being brown. In her casual outfit, she wears a black tank top, a large white belt long pants and boots while also having three sheathes on her back to hold her three swords. At one point, she also wears a brown unbuttoned coat with a white shirt tucked inside of it and a black skirt. In her hybrid form, she appears completely naked, with a pointy metallic featureless head with two horns shaped like a bow, as well as a neck adorned with several spikes. Her arms also become metallic, each one bearing a spike-adorned crossbow.
Personality[]
Quanxi can be described as a seemingly lazy person as she prefers on having leisure more than anything else by having sex with her four girlfriends to amuse herself. She mostly spends her time as a stoic and calm person and is seemingly apathetic towards the world around her. This is due to the fact that Quanxi follows a philosophy about ignorance being bliss because the more you ignore the surroundings around you, the more that you become happier despite the tumultuous time that you had to endure.
In spite of her lazy and apathetic personality, Quanxi herself deeply cared about her girlfriends as she will do anything to keep them safe or take care of them nicely and when she's going into combat, she shows herself to be one of the most deadliest and efficient assassins that tries her best to keep her job done.

Quanxi was born around 50 years before the events of the series. She's said to be the first person who officially became a Devil Hunter. Quanxi worked alongside Kishibe, who had a crush on her and constantly tried to ask her out, to which she always refused nonchalantly. Eventually, Quanxi comes out as a lesbian to Kishibe, which causes him to give up on his advances on her. At some point, Quanxi abandoned the Public Safety Devil Hunters and moved to China, where she became an assassin. It's also there where she supposedly met the Fiends Pingsti, Cosmo, Long and a nameless fiend who’s appearance is described as “tsugihagi” in character polls (a japanese word referring to her patched appearance), who would, later on, become her girlfriends.
International Assassins Arc[]
Quanxi was introduced in Chapter 54, naked in bed alongside her other four girlfriends. She then was tasked by the Chinese Military to kill Denji and obtain his heart and when asked about the reward that she wanted, she then asks the Chinese government to give her girlfriends some basic education. During their trip to Japan, they accidentally bumped into someone else's car and when the person complained about it, one of Quanxi's girlfriends, Cosmo, hypnotizes him which resulted in said person saying nothing but "Halloween!".
During their stay in Japan, they spend their time like a tourist even visiting a Conveyor Belt Sushi Restaurant to eat while deciding that she will do her job tomorrow as she and the rest of her girlfriends took a rest in a nearby hotel. As the other assassins make their move when Denji and the other devil hunters went into the department store, Quanxi and her girlfriend learned about Santa Claus, his existence resulted in her postponing the mission alongside her girlfriend.
As Quanxi and her girlfriends execute their plans, they appeared in the back alley of the Department Store as Quanxi performs one of the deadliest moves imaginable: Vanishing into the thin air and decapitating and dismembering nearly all of the puppets and the devil hunters in the department store with a speed like lightning while also knocking both one of the devil hunters, Aki Hayakawa and the Angel Devil unconscious. Fortunately, one of the devil hunters, Yoshida, attempted to stop Quanxi with his octopus demon to no avail until Kishibe took her two girlfriends that tries to attack him hostage.

When Kishibe took two of her girlfriends hostage, Quanxi then decides to have a nice chat with him while asking about what happened with her two other girlfriends as they were revealed to run away from Kishibe. During their chat, when asking Kishibe about him being a different person compared to his past self, Kishibe then answers that he lost his fangs a long time ago while also subtly warns Quanxi about Makima listening to their conversation and also telling her that he plans to kill Makima while asking her offer to join forces under the pretense that he would guaranteed her safety.
However, Quanxi decides to turn down the offer and telling her about the story of the reporter that she had a crush on while advising Kishibe to keep his collar on. When one of the Three Brothers, Aldo, attempts to shoot Denji who took one of Quanxi's girlfriend as a hostage, in which Kishibe responded by kicking Denji to dodge his bullet, Quanxi uses this as an opportunity to fight against Kishibe who in the end was thrown from the building alongside Aldo and ended up hitting one of the devil hunters, Kobeni's, car.
When Quanxi's horned girlfriend, Long, pinned Denji on the ground, Power then took Quanxi's futakuchi-onna haired girlfriend, Pingtsi, as a hostage in order to let Denji escape as Quanxi orders Power to release Pingtsi as she doesn't want to fight her. At the same time, the Shark Devil, Beam, comes into rescue by knocking Long that took Denji as a hostage and then ends up fighting with Yoshida again who asks a rematch which Quanxi accepts as the two share a similar strength together. However, in the end, Quanxi manages to overpower Yoshida as she throws him from the mall before saving himself with the octopus demon while Quanxi decides to fight the other devil hunters before being sent to hell by Santa Claus.
After being sent to hell and seeing that Denji was unable to turn into his chainsaw man form fully, Quanxi decides to asks for temporary truce towards other Devil Hunter and at the same time, Pingtsi also warns Quanxi and the rest of the devil hunters about the existence of a rather formidable primal devil in hell that was watching them and they managed to attract their hostility which resulted on them meeting their impending doom. The devil itself is revealed to be the Darkness Devil as when he came, the devil then brutally maims both Quanxi and her girlfriends after fighting with them.
As Quanxi managed to return to Earth thanks to Makima, her silent nameless girlfriend, notices Quanxi's head as she carries it and pulls an arrow out of Quanxi's right eye socket while dropping it into the pile of Santa Claus's dolls which transforms Quanxi into a Crossbow Hybrid as she destroys several of Santa Claus's doll while holding a grudge towards her which resulted on Quanxi forming a temporary truce with Denji to defeat Santa Claus. During their fight, Santa Claus then reveals Quanxi being the first devil hunter to grace on planet earth.

As Quanxi tries to aid Denji in the battle against the sapience dolls due to Santa Claus's powers, she was stopped by Santa Claus as she attempts to attack her in which Quanxi fortunately evades the attack before the nightfall hits which resulted in Santa Claus becoming more powerful. As Quanxi attempts to attack Santa Claus to help Denji, she then retaliates by making Quanxi's girlfriends into her personal doll while impaling Quanxi.
However, after Santa Claus was seemingly defeated and still alive, Quanxi is also revealed to be still alive and decapitates Denji's head while ordering Cosmo to give Santa Claus all knowledge of the Akashic Records to give her a karmic punishment as Santa Claus was reduced into nothing but a pathetic wreck who can only scream "Halloween" after she was given a huge knowledge of the universe. As Quanxi and her girlfriends encountered Makima who attempts to give them punishment, Quanxi attempts to surrender and requesting her girlfriends to be spared. However, in the end, Makima decides to decapitate Quanxi and the rest of her girlfriends ruthlessly killing them.
Control Devil Arc[]

However, as the Hybrids are immortal, Quanxi is later revealed to still be alive. She, alongside Reze and Samurai Sword, are brainwashed by Makima in order to defeat the Chainsaw Man. Becoming a shell of her former self, Makima manipulates her mind. She expresses an urge to protect Makima as Quanxi and Makima's other brainwashed pawns attempts defeated the Chainsaw Man so that she could get a nice present from Makima.
In Chapter 87, as Quanxi changed into her hybrid form to defeat the Chainsaw Man alongside Makima's other brainwashed pawns, she was then thrown into other building alongside Samurai Sword during the fight with her last being seen brutally murdered by Chainsaw Man with her guts coming out from her stomach.
Chainsaw Man Church Arc[]
After Makima's death, Quanxi returned to her original personality alongside the other hybrids. Since then, she has gone back to working as a Public Safety Devil Hunter in Japan.
Quanxi later attacks Miri Sugo, Whip Woman and Spear Man before they attack the park under orders from Barem. She then reports the incident to her superiors at Public Safety, and they prepare to launch a full assault on the Chainsaw Man Church.
Powers and Abilities[]

- Martial arts and combat proficiency: As a fighter, Quanxi is shown to be very tough in hand-to-hand combat, being able to go toe-to-toe with other competent fighters such as Kishibe and Yoshida. She's also shown to be quite strong in general, even more so than her partner Kishibe, as she managed to throw him out of a window rather easily;
- Agility and reflex: As another part of her combat abilities, Quanxi is also shown to have superhuman agility and reflex, being able to dodge attacks rapidly and even stop a moving knife with her fingers;
- Bilingualism: As an international assassin, Quanxi has demonstrated being able to speak Chinese and Japanese fluently;
- Swordsmanship: Being armed with several swords, Quanxi is shown to have a plethora of sword-fighting skills, which proved to be quite deadly when combined with her supernatural Devil powers;
- Superspeed: Quanxi can run at extreme speeds. Most of the time, she combines this ability with her swordfighting skills, by rapidly dashing onto her enemies and slicing them up with her sword. This usually results in the sword breaking due to the high speeds, which is the reason why she's constantly carrying spare ones;
- Hybrid transformation: As the Crossbow Hybrid, Quanxi can partially transform into the Crossbow Devil and use their demonic abilities. She can trigger her transformation by removing an arrow from her eyepatch-covered eye;
- Arrow shooting: In her Hybrid form, Quanxi is equipped with crossbows in her arms which can shoot several arrows at her targets. These arrows are shown to be quite powerful as they can tear perfectly circular holes into whatever Quanxi shoots;
- Regeneration: Quanxi can regenerate or heal herself by drinking blood and, because of this, she can sustain all kinds of lethal injuries, such as being beheaded and bisected;
- Immortality: As a hybrid, Quanxi is immortal and nearly unkillable as she's able to recover from the most fatal wounds. The only possible way to kill Quanxi is to completely destroy her Devil heart. Additionally, Quanxi seems to not be able to age physically as she appears to look the same way she did 30 years ago. It is unknown if this is connected to her Devil abilities.
Trivia[]
- Given the ambiguity of her age it is unknown if “first devil hunter” refers to a modern version of a profession or not, like the difference between an ancient warrior compared to a modern soldier or a caveman hunting compared to a more “professional” and organized modern human hunting for example.
- Her name is said to be an ancient Chinese name that hasn’t been used in thousands of years and would be considered unusual in modern times, but it isn’t impossible for people to have uncommon or unusual names adding to the ambiguous nature of her age. It has also been said “Quanxi” isn’t exactly a correct translation of what her name is supposed to be.
- In one of those types of pages that show off characters with small descriptions of them in the manga, she was originally referred to as “The Strongest Devil Hunter” or “The Strongest Humanity had to offer” so it could be presumed that it was changed to another title because her former friend, Kishibe, already bore the title of “The Strongest Devil Hunter.”
- While Chainsaw Man is a world with an alternate history but still with many similarities to the real world, many people often use how China being an old civilization in the real world would “logically” make her the first ever human hunter in existence. While China is an ancient civilization and is the oldest country with the same national identity that is still around today, it is far from being the oldest civilization ever as several others preceded it. If one goes with the idea that she was the first devil hunter in existence, this would be very questionable of how Devils, who are implied to be just as old as humanity, would have their first ever hunter be an anatomically modern human Chinese woman and how no one hunted devils, not even more prehistoric/ancient humans, before her. Logistically, it would make more sense for there to be more of a gray area of who the first ancient devil hunter would have been and that there wouldn’t exactly have been one singular first devil hunter as there have been devils humans can easily kill and in real life dangerous creatures prehistoric and ancient humans have hunted and killed. This error could be somewhat averted if she is meant to be the first person in a more “professionalized” or “advanced” version or variation of devil hunting along with how her age is meant to be mysterious rather than explicitly defined, and as noted above, it seems her being “the first devil hunter” as an honorary title appears to be more of the result of how another character was already called “the strongest devil hunter” and the creator wanted to change her title so her’s can be distinct.
- The name of her fused devil, “Crossbow Devil”, is conjectural and is never confirmed what it’s real name is in the manga. There have been other unofficial names given to the devil, such as Bow and Arrow or just Arrow, but the name Crossbow stuck the most due to the shape of its horns and how crossbows specifically originate from China.
- The name “Crossbow Lady” is a fanon nickname and has no form of reference in the source material.
- There has been a very minor misconception that she is a natural devil with a humanoid form, but most people know this isn’t the cause. Another similar misconception is that she is either the “Hunter Devil” or “Huntress Devil” and thus she has the natural instinct and ability to hunt, and this is why and what makes her the first devil hunter. None of this is canon as she is a person who was born human and became a hybrid after fusing with a weapon devil under unknown circumstances at an unknown time.
- In contrast to how Denji is most publicly known as his role as the Chainsaw Man, most people seem to only know Quanxi as a freakishly strong and fast human and not a hybrid or devil of any kind. The Chainsaw Man is revered as a public figure who is a friendly devil who fights devils but Quanxi is often feared as a deadly mysterious assassin human who has scary abilities for a “human” and hunts devils. It seems to be implied she mostly fights in her human form and enters her hybrid form rarely. It is unknown how many people know of her secret aside from her fiends.
- She seems to be the only hybrid who has hybrid abilities like speed and strength in “human” form. This is probably an oversight on the creator’s part as at first she was made to be passed off as a dangerous human who can either be seen as someone with a devil contract or having scarily peak natural abilities for a human, with her being a hybrid being a reveal later on and how the other hybrids aren’t actively dangerous at first until they finally start to transform, only showing their hybrid abilities afterwards.
