Queen Ansurek

Queen Ansurek is the ruler of the nerubian kingdom of Azj-Kahet and a major villain in The War Within expansion in the Warcraft universe.

Ansurek has struck a deal with Xal'atath, the Harbinger of the Void, to restore her people's glory by transforming them into Ascended through the use of Black Blood.

Biography[]

As a child, Ansurek saw her mother, Queen Neferess, reject the Black Empire's call to serve the Old Gods. However, years later, with the Kingdom of Azj-Kahet facing famine and hardship, Ansurek began to doubt her mother's decision, which had granted them freedom but not prosperity.

Xal'atath approached both Neferess and Ansurek, offering the power of the Black Blood of the fallen Old Gods to strengthen their people. While Neferess refused, Ansurek accepted and, in a bid for power, betrayed and stabbed her mother, taking the throne. She publicly blamed Neferess' death on the Hallowfall Arathi to justify a war against them, but secretly imprisoned and experimented on her, turning Neferess into the First Ascended.

After her ascension, Ansurek replaced General Anub'azal as the head of the army with Zev'kall, a loyal Ascended. During the events of The War Within, Xal'atath, disguised as Drenden, infiltrated the Council of Six and tricked them into teleporting Dalaran to Khaz Algar, leaving it vulnerable. Ansurek then led her forces in an assault on the city, capturing many of its citizens.

Personality[]

From a very early age Ansurek had visions of grandeur and held bitter resentment towards her mother for what she saw as weakness and crimes against their people's destiny. While her mother rejected the Old Gods, she would not, and readily and eagerly swore her people to the power of Xal'atath, ready to bring Azj-Kahet glory. She would take her place as ruler of Khaz Algar and crush all that stood in her path, ordering the extermination of the Earthen and anyone else that dared oppose her.

As her power, and dependency of the Void grew, so did her insanity. Oblivious to the monstrosities her people were turning into and wholly welcoming it, her tyranny descended into greater and more brutal evils. She also became extremely paranoid that her people were seeking her downfall, and while this was justified as there actually were nerubians who wanted her and her wickedness gone, she became consumed by it and lost what little sanity she had remaining, seeing them all as failures and expendable on her rise to greater power.

Trivia[]

Ansurek has the distinction of being the very first named Nerubian Queen to appear in all of Warcraft.
