Queen Opaline Arcana[1] is the main antagonist of the fifth generation of Hasbro's My Little Pony franchise. She is an evil Alicorn Queen, the former boss and the former adoptive mother of Misty Brightdawn, and the arch-nemesis of Sunny Starscout, Zipp Storm, and ultimately Misty Brightdawn.
Opaline is a slim, magenta-purple-coated Alicorn, with her chest being noticeably colored in a slightly lighter shade. She possesses almond-shaped deep-ocean eyes, long thick eyelashes, arched black brows, deep-ocean hooves, and dons makeup consisting of glittery-blue eyeshadow and angled mascara. Her most distinctive feature is her silver-white mane and tail with various thin streaks of cyan-green. Her main is also shoulder-length, and is parted into two side sections, with small braids around her ears holding the hairstyle. Her hairstyle also resulted into the parts of her mane being left down form a tapering spiral pattern that makes it appear thicker by her shoulders. As for her cutie mark, it consists of a violet-magenta horn having an inscribed transparent rhombus, and accompanying it are two, cyan-blue flames on the side that resemble wings. Opaline is much taller than the other ponies, which is specifically shown when standing next to Misty.
As per being her pony type, she possesses a long, slightly curved horn with the tip being colored in a slightly paler shade, along with a pair of large, retractable feathered-wings with a violet-to-magenta gradient approaching the wingtips. Opaline's only choice of clothing is that of metallic, emerald-green cuffs on the ankles of all four of her hooves. The front of each cuff vaguely resembles that of unicorn head with feather-like spikes, with both the pegasi and unicorn imagery in her accessories refers to her status as a true alicorn.
After consuming a large amount of dragon fire from Sparky, Opaline's horn and wings produces bright and powerful fire, possessing a gradient color scheme consisting shades of cyan-blue, white and purple. The streaks of her mane now also glow a brighter cyan, and her neck, down to her chest, has some noticeable glowing assents, implying that the dragon fire now runs through the inside of her body, most likely her veins.
In Tell Your Tale, Opaline's legs look more stockier and her mane and tail are more wavier in appearance, possibly because of the more simplistic art style.

Opaline is a selfish, vile, greedy, cruel, cunning, vain, prideful, arrogant, ruthless and extremely power-hungry individual who hates the idea of unity and equality. She feels entitled to all magic, believing it all to be rightfully hers, and also believes that ponies should fear and love the Alicorn species, which she believes are meant to rule Equestria as the only magical ponies. Even after absorbing a little of Sparky's dragonfire, she became even more greedy than before as she demanded for more. Due to having little magic, she easily gets jealous of others when they used powerful magic and voicing out her resentment at both Princess Celestia and Princess Luna while telling her backstory.
Opaline is very abusive towards her assistant and adoptive daughter Misty, either out of sadism or anger. She constantly berates, belittles, intimidates and humiliates Misty, harshly scolding her for even the smallest or most innocent mistakes, and cruelly tells her that she's nothing without Opaline and will not be enough until she can prove herself useful. She is also sly, devious and manipulative, as she preys on Misty's insecurities and desire for a cutie mark to secure her loyalty, and also used her magic to appear as Sunny's inner mind from the magical mirror in an attempt to corrupt her by "encouraging" her to fully embrace her Alicorn form. However, Opaline also appears to have a short temper as she is easily annoyed or angered by even the smallest of mistakes, showing her pettiness.
Ultimately, Opaline's power hungry and ambitious nature led to her eventual downfall as Misty finally realized who she is due to always constantly being put under her thumb for so long that she decide to turn against her former master and join with Sunny and her friends to help them put an end on her ambitions once and for all. While it is said she believed that Alicorns are meant to rule over Equestria because they're the only magical ponies here, Opaline is actually fully aware of how evil she is and always took pride of it, possibly using it as an excuse to commit atrocities whatever she wants. She is largely selfish and egotistical enough to believed that nopony could stop her and boasted over how powerful she is so much that she couldn't understand the true meaning of friendship despite Sunny and Misty's effort to talk to her out of this, which led everypony in Equestria connect their unity and power of friendship to their respective Together Trees to strip away all of the cutie marks she stole from them returning back to them, losing her chance to conquer the entire Equestria once and for all.
Despite her defeat, Opaline is way stubborn enough to refused to give up as she furiously yells out loud in rage and decided to go after Sunny and the dragons, implied to get back at them, but only to be foolishly went after her own cutie mark that is taken away from her as an irony karma for all of the things she has done, showing she refused to let go of obsession over power and never wanted to feel powerless, which ultimately caused her own imprisonment inside of her own Together Tree.
In Tell Your Tale, Opaline is shown to have comedic side of hers like begging Misty for dragonfire in "Dragon Dad", became sensitive as Misty returns to the castle while singing of her wishing for dragonfire in "Under the Mistytoe", and throwing temper tantrums like a toddler while voicing out her hatred towards Sunny Starscout in "Opaline Alone".

My little fake friend brought some real unity magic back to me whether she meant to or not. And all it took was one tiny spark... to activate my tree. And once my tree woke up, well, it made friends with the tree in Maretime Bay and another tree in Bridlewood. And then my friend Misty – do you know what she did? She grew a brand new one for us in Zephyr Heights. So maybe my little Misty really has been a true friend, after all. Now all of the cutie marks come to me one by one. Bing, bong. Trivia[]
Her name could be possibly taken from the name of an Opal gemstone (although her name is similar to Opalicious from G4). Her form and color also resembles the gem.
Before her real name was revealed, Opaline was referred as the "Shadowy Alicorn" in the dubbing credits of My Little Pony: Make Your Mark special.
So far, My Little Pony: Mane Merge is the only game in the current generation that features Opaline.
Just like Misty, her surname was also revealed later on. Her surname 'Arcana' appears on both the toy figures released in late 2022/early 2023, and the recent book "Sunny Starscout's Book of Adventure".[2]
At the Chapter 4 finale "Missing the Mark", her full name is finally confirmed to be Opaline Arcana.
Her favorite fruit is shadowberries, as stated by Misty Brightdawn in the Tell Your Tale episode "As the Misty Clears".
So far, the Tell Your Tale episodes "Opaline Alone" and briefly "Under the Mistletoe", is the only times we hear Opaline singing.
