Quentin Beck is the main antagonist of the Marvel Cinematic Universe animated series What If...? episode "What If... The Emergence Destroyed the Earth?". He is a tyrannical version of Mysterio who seized control of Stark Industries after the Celestial Tiamut left Earth in ruins. With his newfound wealth, he built a group of soldiers called the Iron Legion and took over the entire planet. He also injected his own blood with nanites, which caused the side effect of rapid aging, but gave him superhuman powers.

He was voiced by Alejandro Saab, who also voiced Bödvar the Fierce in God of War: Ragnarök, Blinky in Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac, and Cole Vaughn in Poppy Playtime.

History[]

Much like in the Sacred Timeline, Quentin Beck was a Stark Industries employee working on illusion technology. However. in this universe, the Celestial Tiamut emerged from the Earth years before Sersi could interfere. The Earth was broken into pieces and chaos rained. Seeing an opportunity, Beck took control of Stark Industries and built a group of robotic soldiers called the Iron Legion, as well as creating a synthezoid called Vision. Quentin also injected his blood with nanites, which linked his mind with his technology at the cost of slowly killing his body. With his Iron Legion, Quentin took over on the entire planet and ruled it with an iron fist.

After Riri Williams took Vision offline and made a suit of armor out of him, Quentin was able to see the Alliance's every move. When the team arrived at Quentin's base, he killed the rest of the Alliance and used illusions to make it seem like Riri was winning the fight. Quentin attempted to remove painfully remove the armor from Riri to give himself a new body, though an interference from the Watcher encouraged her to keep fighting. With her newfound strength, Riri managed to defeat Quentin and shut down his army. Quentin died almost immediately after. His legacy endured as the Watcher's aforementioned interference was part of what led to his showdown with Eminence in the first place.

Personality[]

Quentin Beck is a very horrible human being, perhaps one of the worst in the entire series. He was willing to take control of an entire planet and murder countless lives all for power. He was also extremely obsessive, as Quentin was completely consumed by the idea of finding the Alliance, as well as giving himself a new body. The latter of which also shows his self-importance. Like many villains, he's very sadistic. In his final moments, he mocked Riri Williams as he took her nanite suit to make himself an android hybrid. However, his plan was foiled as the Watcher once again broke his oath to intervene, motivating Riri to get up and fight.

Being a scientist, he's also highly intelligent. He managed to construct advanced technology that can flawlessly fool anyone, and through this he manage to wage a violent war that eventually resulted in him taking control of the entire planet.

Trivia[]

Unlike the Sacred Timeline, Quentin never adopts the name Mysterio, as that name was used for a fake hero which this Quentin never adopted the identity of.
- This may be due to the film rights to Spider-Man related characters primarily belonging to Sony.
