Biography[]
Early History[]
Qetsiyah was a powerful witch who lived during the 1st century B.C. in Ancient Greece. She fell in love with Silas, another powerful witch in her group, and they became engaged to be married. Qetsiyah created an immortality elixir for them to drink on their wedding night, but Silas betrayed her by giving the elixir to another woman. Furious, Qetsiyah created a cure for immortality and entombed Silas on a remote island with the choice to take the cure and die or rot as an immortal being. Qetsiyah also created the Other Side, a supernatural purgatory, to prevent Silas from being reunited with his love in the afterlife. Qetsiyah was later killed by the Travelers and forced to watch as Silas and his love's doppelgängers fell in love over the centuries. An altered version of Qetsiyah's immortality spell was used by Esther Mikaelson to create the first vampires, and Qetsiyah's descendant created the Brotherhood of the Five hunters to find and kill Silas, but their mission was sidetracked by the Original vampire, Niklaus Mikaelson.
Season 4[]
Professor Shane tells his students about Qetsiyah, who helped Silas create a spell for immortality. Qetsiyah killed Silas' lover when she discovered that he planned to live forever with another woman, and then imprisoned Silas with her powers. Shane later gives Bonnie Qetsiyah's talisman and reveals that Bonnie and the Bennett Line are descended from Qetsiyah. Qetsiyah created the cure and buried it with Silas, hoping he would take it and die so they could be together on the Other Side, but he refused. Qetsiyah also created the Other Side to trap Silas there if he took the cure and died. The core of Silas' Headstone contains Qetsiyah's calcified blood, which is valuable in some witch circles.
Silas describes Qetsiyah as one of the most powerful witches of all time and reveals to Bonnie that Qetsiyah cast a spell to disfigure him. Bonnie makes a deal with Katherine to obtain Qetsiyah's knowledge of making someone immortal like Silas. However, Silas lies to Bonnie and prevents her from summoning Qetsiyah. In Graduation, Qetsiyah reminds Vaughn of his destiny to cure and kill Silas, and Silas admits to creating the Immortality Spell, which is later revealed to be a lie.
Season 5[]
Qetsiyah, the ancient witch, reveals to Stefan that she is the one who saved him from burning to death and explains the history behind the creation of the Petrova doppelgängers. She casts a spell to suppress Silas' mental powers, but Damon interrupts her. Later, Qetsiyah desiccates Silas after he tricks her by pretending to be Stefan. She then takes care of Stefan and reveals her plan to kill Silas, who has taken the cure, while also revealing the anchor's true identity as Amara. Qetsiyah lures Elena into her cabin and threatens to kill her unless Damon kills Silas. Stefan attacks Qetsiyah to give Elena a chance to escape, and she restores his memories and reminds him of his abandonment. Qetsiyah needs a powerful binding agent for the anchor transfer and decides to use a doppelgänger.
Qetsiyah takes Amara, the original doppelganger, to see the mortal form of herself as a gift. Qetsiyah plans to use Bonnie as the anchor to the Other Side, with the blood of Amara and the doppelgangers, to trap Silas and Amara apart for eternity. However, Silas interrupts the spell and Qetsiyah and Amara disappear. Stefan offers to keep Amara alive if Silas doesn't come find her, and Qetsiyah finishes the spell with Elena's help. She refuses to help Katherine with her aging problem, and after slitting her own wrists, she dies and passes through Bonnie to the Other Side. In "Resident Evil," it is revealed that the Travelers started a war with the witches after Qetsiyah created Immortality on Earth and Markos wants to use the doppelgängers' blood to undo the witch's curse.
