Elita-1: Why would Sentinel do that?
Alpha Trion: To make a bargain.
B-127: A bargain? With who?
Alpha Trion: With the new rulers of Cybertron.
~ Alpha Trion telling Elita and others about Quintessons.

The Quintessons are the overarching antagonistic faction of the 2024 film Transformers One. They are a race of techno-organic beings and the life-long enemies of the Cybertronians who crave their unique energy, Energon (fuel and life blood of Cybertronians).

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Quintessons are bizarre, arthropod-like beings with green exoskeletons, red fleshy interiors and large shelled heads with no neck. They have glowing yellow eyes, sliver jaws, and claw-like arms that come equipped with laser blasters in the form of stingers. For legs, the Quintessons have five green tentacles with pores on them and silver claws, though their commander has more tentacles. On their bodies, they have purple orbs that could possibly be Dark Energon, which is the blood of Unicron.

Nature[]

The Quintessons are a malevolent race of mechanical aliens that have appeared in various iterations of the Transformers Generation One continuity. They are devious and secretive, their history intertwining with that of Primus and Unicron, as well as the planet Cybertron and its inhabitants.

Abilities and Powers[]

  • Laser blast: The Quintessons' left arm is a built-in blaster that fires green laser blasts.
  • Bladed-arms: The Quintessons' right arm features a blade that is sharp enough to kill Cypertronians like Solus Prime when Sentinel blast her into a dead Quintesson and one manage to kill Liege Maximo by stabbing him repeatedly.
  • Strength: The Quintessons are shown to be strong beings. Five of them manage to restrain Megatronus Prime after he was distracted by Nexus Prime's death from Sentinel's betrayal.
  • Wall Crawling: The Quintessons are able to crawl on walls as they ambush the Primes they appeared from a hole above the cave.
  • Superhuman Speed: The Quintessons can move with exceptional speed, outpacing most Cybertronians and performing swift maneuvers in battle. The High Commander managed to grab Sentinel before he could react.

History[]

Past[]

For thousands of cycles (millennia by human standards), the Quintessons fought the Cybertronians for control of their planet. The leaders of Cybertron, the Thirteen Primes, led their people in repelling the Quintessons, though the war came to a bitter stalemate. But then Sentinel, the chief advisor of the Thirteen Primes, brokered a sinister deal with the Quintessons: If he led the Primes into an ambush to be slaughtered, the Quintessons would allow him to appoint himself the new leader of Cybertron under their thumb, so long as he provided them with a previously agreed upon amount of energon as part for their bargain.

Sentinel reported to the Primes that he'd intercepted a message about an important meeting of the high command of the Quintessons in a distant cave on the planet's surface. Eager to bring the war to an end by eliminating the Quintesson leadership in a single strike, the Primes followed Sentinel to the cave, only to be besieged by a battalion of Quintesson troopers. The Primes nearly triumphed over their attackers until Sentinel turned on his superiors, slaying most of them himself. With the battle over, Sentinel tore open Zeta Prime's chest to claim the Matrix of Leadership for himself, but having proven himself unworthy, it crumbled to dust in his hands.

Undeterred, Sentinel declared himself a Prime by ripping Megatronus Prime's cog for himself, and announced to Cybertron that the Quintessons were defeated and that he was the last survivor of the Primes. With the planet failing to produce fresh energon in the absence of the Matrix, Sentinel removed the transformation cogs of most of Cybertron's lower classes and put them to work mining for Energon in order to provide tributes to the Quintessons. Sentinel and his retinue made periodic trips to the surface to deliver the Energon, telling the populace that they were searching for the Matrix, along with attempting to find the High Guard, who know about his true nature.

Transformers One[]

Fifty cycles later, the Quintessons maintained control over Cybertron's surface, their ships obliterating any lifeforms that they detected. On one particular delivery, after Sentinel bowed before the Quintesson High Commander and presented his offering of energon, the High Commander noticed the tribute was light and grew hostile, grabbing and restraining Sentinel with his tentacles. Sentinel begged for mercy, insisting that Cybertron's mines were depleting, and the High Commander only begrudgingly spared Sentinel's life and departed when he pleaded for more time to collect the rest of the tribute. The High Commander departed with his forces, and Sentinel vowed to work the miners even harder. However, the altercation was witnessed by a group of miners; namely Orion Pax, D-16, Elita-1 and B-127.

Having discovered that the history they had been told was a lie, they eventually brought down Sentinel Prime and his regime; Orion, Elita-1 and B-127 revealed the truth to the entire citizens of Iacon and Sentinel was killed by D-16 (now known as Megatron). The newly-raised Optimus Prime, now in possession of the Matrix, used it to reignite the flow of energon and sent a warning to the Quintessons that if they were to ever return, they would have to face him and his newly formed faction, the Autobots.

It isn't known if the warning was heeded, or if the Quintessons would merely alter their existing plan of subjugation.
