A reminder to all personnel questioning why RPC-398 is Gamma-Black: Imagine if the Authority had all efforts fail and we were unable to reestablish containment of RPC-398 before its grace period ends. Every living being would be assimilated into its twisted bone "entourage" of animals, humans, and everything in-between. Now… combine this with the sheer amount of creatures on our planet, and the number of decibels that it increases by with not only each human, but each individual creature, and the amount of damage that kind of noise can make would be irreversible to the Earth. It would increase exponentially until the very crust of the earth is shattered and RPC-398 would basically be drilling down until there was nothing but the magma-covered core of Earth remaining. That is why 398 is classified as Gamma-Black.
~ Dr. Kyoops explaining why RPC-398 is classified as Gamma-Black.

RPC-398 is a Gamma-Black RPC and a minor antagonist of the RPC Authority mythos. It's a sentient skeleton that, when manifesting, starts dancing; all those that hear its music and don't dance have their skeletons expelled from their bodies (remaining alive but unable to move until they eventually die due to accelerated decomposition), which are converted into RPC-398-1 instances and join the main RPC-398 in its dance while also trying to pull other living creatures into it.

Biography[]

RPC-398 was first discovered on the night of October 31, 2011, dancing with 29 RPC-398-1 instances, surrounded by corpses, candles and religious iconography (which seems to imply the individuals whose skeletons were stolen summoned RPC-398 via a ritual).

RPC-398 manifests every midnight on June 3 and inconsistent dates in the month of October within a random graveyard located in areas surrounding California, USA. When manifesting, RPC-398 begins dancing while the RPC-398-1 instances play a cappella of Andrew Gold's "Spooky Scary Skeletons" via instruments that are actually other skeletons. If someone hears the music and doesn't dance (either because they refuse or collapse due to exhaustion), their skeletons will be expelled from their bodies and become new RPC-398-1 instances, which will then attempt to forcefully dance with other living beings.

RPC-398 cannot be destroyed but it can be forced to dissipate if its skull is removed by someone other than itself. When this happens, all affected creatures will have their skeletons returned to them with enhanced physical properties.
