Rachel Hawkerson is the main antagonist of the 9-1-1 Season 4 episode "Blindsided".

She is a woman, revealed to be an alcoholic who caused a massive car pile-up while critically injuring her son Jacob.

She was portrayed by Juliana Dever.

Biography[]

She was married to Wyatt Hawkerson, though their marriage hit a snag because of Rachel's constant drinking. However, Rachel ended up getting pregnant and gave up drinking to give birth to their son Jacob who was born healthy and this caused Wyatt to believe she had stop the habit, with them having a healthy family dynamic. Unknown to Wyatt, Rachel's drinking continued and worsen over time.

Blindsided[]

One night, Rachel was drinking and her son was with her. Dispatcher Maddie Buckley gets a 9-1-1 call from a boy named Jacob, who says his mother, Rachel is acting strange and is driving erratically. A disoriented Rachel was behind the wheel, and her incoherent mumbling was heard by Maddie. She ignored Jacob's attempt to hand her the phone while continuing to drive and ended up entering the freeway while going the wrong way with a distress Jacob informed Maddie of the situation. Upon entry, Rachel disrupted the traffic flow and struck many cars in the process, as multiple drivers called dispatch to alert them, as they set up methods to stop the car while making sure it was safe for Jacob once notified of his presence in the car.

Jacob continued to beg Rachel to stop, and dispatch ordered her to pull over, though this fell on deaf ears. Eventually, Rachel's trip ended with her crashing into a shuttle bus, leading to a massive pile up of cars on the highway. The 118 answered the call and Firefighter Bobby Nash revealed that Rachel's action claimed the lives of three people while leaving a majority injured. It is later revealed that Albert Han, Chimney's younger half-brother was among the injured and called before he crashed. Albert was found and hospitalized, while clinging to life after his brother had previously left for his child's birth.

Rachel's car was found and the unit discovered both she and Jacob survived the crash. They noticed Rachel was bloodied and barely coherent, as she questioned what was happening, before she was loaded up on a stretcher. The firefighters locate Jacob and realize he will need the treatment for his injuries. As Rachel and Jacob are loaded into separate ambulances, a barely conscious Rachel cries out for her son, while being told he'll be fine. Sgt. Athena Grant-Nash discovers a bottle containing a large quantity of alcohol, revealing Rachel to be a drunk driver and earned her scorn from Athena and Hen for costing innocents their lives.

Rachel was taken to the hospital, where Athena demanded her blood levels be tested and it was discovered way over the limit, putting her in custody. Her husband was notified and was distraught that he had been blind to it and what happened, as well as how his son called 911.

The next day, Jacob awoke in the hospital and was visited by his relieved father, before inquiring about his mother and Wyatt couldn't answer. Meanwhile, the now remorseful Rachel was visited by police and informed of her actions, saying nothing as she was charged for drunk driving, triple vehicular manslaughter. massive injury, and child endangerment. Rachel was then handcuffed to the bed, contemplating her choices.

Suspicion[]

Rachel had been released on bail but wore an ankle bracelet, while awaiting trial. She decided to beat her habit, with Bobby acting as her sponsor, being able to relate to her situation due to his alcoholism costing his family and claiming many lives.
