Rades Spirito is a major antagonist in Black Clover manga and anime series. He is a former member of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, and a former member of the Clover Kingdom's Purple Orca squad of the Magic Knights.
He first appeared as the main antagonist in the Royal Capital Arc, and a major antagonist in his remaining appearance in the first saga, until the Reincarnation Arc's final segment, where he served as a reluctant ally to Asta and the Black Bulls, though with his more personal agenda.
He is voiced by Masayuki Akasaka in Japanese and by Bryan Massey in English.
Personality[]
Rades is a cruel, unforgiving, and arrogant man who takes pride in his abilities. He believes that people with high magical power have the privilege to oppress those who are weaker than them. Additionally, Rades finds the act of receiving an attack and bleeding to be inexcusable, especially for someone of his caliber. Not only his pride cause him to be unforgiving to anyone he sees, it also causes him to have a short-tempered and contemptible demeanor.

However, Rades' rage and hatred for being betrayed had awakened his magic and made it genuiuely available to bring people back to life for real. With it, Rades revived himself and Sally. Rades attempted to unleash his revenge against Licht, before he and the others encountered the Black Bulls members (except Gauche, Yami and Finral).
Delighted, Rades asked them to work for him and his revenge, but Asta rebuked Rades instead, proclaiming they were resucuing people instead of seeking revenge, before he attacked Rades for his crimes in the Royal Capital and called out his hypocrisy, saying if he really wanted to help, he should atone his sins.
Shocked, Rades refused to admit his fault and asked for help from Valtos and Sally. Much to his dismay, however, neither of them would follow his idea, since Valtos had a change of heart after realizing how horrible his crimes were, whilst Sally had no problem working with Asta as long as she had a chance to study his physiology.
Running out of gambits, Rades reluctantly accepted Charmy's rice and angrily accepted Asta's offer, but he stated that he would follow his own route. During the fight whilst consuming Charmy's mana-filling meals, Rades only focused on searching for Licht.
In the final battle, Rades discovered Licht's true identity as Patoill as well as Zagred's existence, whilst reluctantly helping Valtos to make Asta and his allies to escape the Shadow Palace after he got chastised by Asta for not helping in the first place. After Asta managed to dispell the Reincarnation Magic and sent the redeemed elves to the afterlife, Rades refused to let Patoilli go, so he used his grimoire to bring back Patolli inside the artificial body reserved for the real Licht, much to Patolli's surprise.
As everyone were surprised by what Rades said, Asta questioned Rades about his motive. Rades replied that he didn't know it either and he did it only out of vengeful determination, before he angrily rebuked Patolli's inhumane crimes and vowed to chase him down and kill him. However, Asta once more called Rades out for his hypocrisy, much to his annoyance, and Patoilli merely thanked Rades to give him a new chance to atone. Cursing and mocking Patolli, Rades left with Sally and Valtos in rage.
Arc 10[]
After the war was over, Rades, Valtos and Sally returned back to the Clover Kingdom where they helped out rebuilding the kingdom. Upon Asta's arrest and trial had opened, Rades continued complaining about doing labors in the ruins and scolded Valtos, but Valtos merely replied that Rades brought it upon himself and he (Valtos) only wanted to atone. Their argument was interrupted by Jack the Ripper, who warned the prisoners to be quiet and get back to work.
Arc 11[]
Six months later, Rades and the others selected for the Spade Kingdom invasion gather at the Magic Knights Headquarters.
Power and Abilities[]
Rades uses Wraith Magic (literally known as Soul Corpse Magic in Japanese version) attribute to infuse his mana into corpses and control them. Rades could use this magic to reanimate corpses into an army of zombies that he could easily manipulate or a special corpse with specific abilities, which he enhanced with his curse power.
When Patolli sacrifices Rades, the final moment of anger and desperation forces Rades's magic to evolve, becoming able to recall souls and revive the dead fully.
