Biography[]
Career[]
Raiten was a journalist working at Shoyu News. After the murder of John Wilson and the subsequent revelation that British visiting student Jezallie Brett killed him both of whom were from the British Empire, Raiten began covering the story and investigating the case. While investigating he discovered that the Japanese government decided to send her to a British consular court in Shanghai instead of imprisoning her and trying her in Japan. While awaiting transfer to Shanghai, Brett was allowed to enjoy freedom. This enraged Menimeo and he took it upon himself to expose this scandal to the press. While digging deeper into the the actions between the Japanese and British Governments regarding Jezallie Brett, he uncovered the Assassin Exchange as well as a tie between the assassin from Japan and Professor Yujin Mikotoba.
Meinmemoism[]
Interviewing Yujin Mikotoba[]
After Soseki Natsume returned home from Japan after his time as a visiting student in London, he wrote and published a book that did remarkedly well. Due to this, Meinmemo began following Natsume in order to write a book about him. When Natsume visited Imperial Yumei University where Yujin Mikotoba worked, Raiten interviewed both Soseki and Yujin. During his interview with Professor Mikotoba Meinmemo learned about a poison Professor Mikotoba's lab was developing. Interested in a potential scoop, he secretly emptied the ink his fountain pen and poured the poison into the now empty pen.
Interviewing a Killer[]
After Meinmemo stole the poison, Jezallie Brett entered the lab and declared to all that on the day before she was to sent to Shanghai she wanted to "gaze upon the sea of Japan with everyone". The Japanese government of course allowed this due to pressure from the British Empire as long as Imperial Police Bureau Detective Satoru Hosonaga supervised her. Professor Mikotoba declined the trip due to his work while Natsume and Imperial Yumei University student and aid to Professor Mikotoba, Rei Membami went with Brett. Seeing an opportunity to interview Brett he went with them. He confronted Brett alone in a beach hut. She was very dismissive and racist towards him. Calling him a caveman who was unable to distinguish between eavesdropping and real journalism. This further enraged Meinmemo and so before he left, he snuck the poison he had stolen from the lab into Brett's drink and left.
After he left, Membami barged into the beach hut and accused Brett of stealing the poison as she was unaware that the poison was actually stolen by Meinmemo. Eavesdropping on the conversation, Meinmemo learned that the poison he had stolen had very specific side effects that would make it obvious to anyone who knew that the poison had been used. A fact that Meinmemo had been unaware of until this conversation. Realizing that it might connect Brett's death to him since the poison was unavailable outside the lab, he pushed between the reeds of the hut and stabbed Brett in the hopes she would die before the poison could take affect. He then pinned the muder on Membami after he took a photograph of her trying to pull the knife out of Brett's corpse. He sent that photo to the police anonymously and Membami was arrested for the murder.
Trial of Rei Membami[]
During the trial of Rei Membami for Brett's murder, Natsume was called to the stand to testify. Whenever Natsume made a pose, Menimemo was right behind taking photos and jotting something down in his notebook. However, once Membami's attorney ""Ryutaro Naruhodo" (actually Susato Mikotoba in disguise) proved to the court that the photo of Meinmemo's interview with Natsume and the photo of Membami pulling the knife had the same identical scratches in the bottom right corner Meinmemo was called to the stand to testify after being identified by Natsume.
After going onto the stand to testify, "Ryutaro Naruhudo" was able to prove that Meinmemo was the true killer of Jezallie Brett with the poison in his pen which had his initials (RM) on them which he accidentally left at the crime which Brett managed to hold in her right hand. A special reagent provided by Imperial Yumei University was used on the pen which reveled that the poison was indeed inside Meinmemo's pen. Exposed, Meinmemo began violently swinging his camera around and throwing pencils before being taken down by Ryutaro and Membami.
Defeat[]
He accepted his defeat and guilt. He lamented the events of the past nine months and told the court about his discoveries he made regarding the government's handing of Jezallie Brett. Although the judge Seishiro Jigoku stopped him before he continue his story and had him taken away by the bailiff.
As he was being hauled away he overheard a discussion between "Naruhudo" and Mikotoba regarding the latter faking an illness in order to force "Naruhudo" to return to Japan from London. Due to this, he broke free from the bailiff and confronted both of them. He yelled that he knew the truth of what really happened on the Steamship that the Japanese exchange student in route to London, England. Before he could finish, Jigoku pulled a Juko move on him. The Bailiffs then finished hauling him away.
Before Susato Mikotoba returned to London, she visited Raiten in his jail cell and asking him what he was about to say before Jigoku cut him off with the Juko move. He revealed that he had learned the body of the Japanese exchange student (Kasuma Asogi) had disappeared. It was supposed to be handed to the Japanese embassy in Hong Kong but the body vanished.
Trivia[]
- Menimemo initially appears in The Adventure of the Blossoming Attorney as a background animation gag for Soseki Natsume; he suddenly appears and starts taking photographs of Natsume when the author starts posing and bragging about his accomplishments. Takumi says that he took inspiration from a cameraman in a stage background in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, presumably referring to the one in The Daily Bugle stage.
- The original design was more elderly and restrained, but Takumi wanted him to be more energetic, so he was designed to be younger, with a tan and a thick, powerful chest. At one point, he was renamed to Munagura, the muna portion referencing the word for "chest" (胸), before being reverted.
