Ramon Montenegro is one of the two main antagonists (alongside with his arch-enemy Rigor Dimaguiba) of Filipino TV series Batang Quiapo (2023). He is portrayed by Christopher de Leon, who also played Armando Banson in Lolong, and Coco Martin (younger self).
Biography[]
He was born to a clan of wealthy and influential business people and crime lords. He was then assigned by his father and his stepsister Olga to rob a bank which caused an alarm to the authorities. As he was been chased by the authorities he accidentally fled to Quiapo and orchestrated hostage in order to attempt to runaway from the authorities. However this was disrupted when hoodlums provoked him, which made him hide from the house of Rigor and Marites where this part he assaulted and threatened her that he’ll retrieve his son after 9 months. After attempting to escape in Quiapo, he was then surrounded by cops and hoodlums making him difficult to escape. He was being overpowered by Rigor, who shoot him multiple times for assaulting Marites .
He was then brought to the hospital to treat his injuries and arrested for his crimes. During his days in prison he spent time doing illegal businesses, recruiting gangs , and bribing officials on his cell. He initially planned to capture his son Tanggol but later changed his mind that he will just leave him alone and just retrieve him back at a right time. He then escaped in prison and continued his family’s illegal businesses with the help of his father and his on and off alliances his nephew Greg and half sister Olga.
In order to hide his identity, he then hatched a plan to setup a police attack and this time he faces again with Rigor. As Rigor shoots his car, he then escapes and detonates the car making him indirectly responsible for Rigor’s suspension on his duty. His identity was then declared dead and finally gain freedom in meeting with his business partners.
He then met Tanggol stealing his attaché case when NLEA arrested Red Phoenix during a wedding day. This made him eager to search for his son Tanggol. Olga then hatched a plan fooling him where she used David as her pawn to pretend as Tanggol who is his biological son. He also learns that Rigor was responsible for his misfortune, planning to kill Rigor to extract his revenge.
He met Mokang upon saving her from the harassment of the pesky Congressman Sevilla in a bar. He then felt in love with her and learned that Mokang was desperate for money for her father’s medical bills. Mokang then agreed to marry him and helped her pay for Marsing’s surgery.
Ramon continued mentoring David for believing that he is Tanggol but somehow skeptical about David’s identity. Authorities then raided their hideout, upon Luis traced the Tondo Gang having a transaction with their friend Baldo who’s working as Ramon’s operators. During the shootout, he then faced once again with Rigor. He attempts to shoots Rigor and chased him until he finally cornered Rigor by knocking him down with his shotgun. Readily prepared to shoot him, he was being stopped by David pleading him to stop his plan of his vengeance. Despite of David’s plea, he continued fathering him seeing him as Tanggol and mentored him in their future transactions.
Later on he blames Mokang and her family for busting their drug operation causing him to abuse and lock Mokang also kicking her family in her mansion. One night, Tanggol sneaks to his mansion and helped her escaped allowing his men to follow them until they reached in a train station resulting Mokang’s death thanks to Olga. As Tanggol buries Mokang to prevent him from searching her, he continues his quest in searching her on the same time continue their family’s business.
He later faces Tanggol as the latter invades one of his hideout during a framed transaction with Red Phoenix causing him to duel Tanggol. Upon facing Tanggol, he becomes skeptical about his identity remembering himself during his young adulthood. On the same time, their duel was disrupted thanks to Red Phoenix who also attempted to assassinate him in order for them to obtain his wealth. With his confrontation with Tanggol, he pursues a mission to search him.
Personality[]
He is seen to be opportunistic criminal shown that he will do his ultimate best just to prove how worthy he is to his family. He is also seen to be charismatic individual having the ability to pull others with attraction, intelligence, and wealth. He is also seen to be merciless and violent when his anger reaches to his limit. He was seen to be gentleman and apologetic to some women such as Mokang after attempting to force himself to her upon realizing that she was just desperate for money for her father’s treatment. This changes until he shows his true colors to Mokang stating that he cares more about his illegal business than her, as he threatens her that he will be hunting down her family for blaming his busted operation. And the most infamous yet most less showcased is his pevertion, He raped Marites
when they were younger, despite barely knowing the woman, causing Tanggol's birth.
