~ Randall Jones threatening Sam Pritchard. |
Randall Jefferson Jones is a supporting antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "Lockdown". He is an imprisoned serial rapist who acts as an informant for corrupt guard Dale Shavers.
He was portrayed by Tommy Lamey.
Biography[]
Past[]
Jones is a serial rapist who eventually got caught and was sentenced to 20 years in Reagan Federal Penitentiary. He survived in prison by informing on other prisoners in return for special privileges from the guards, including an easy work detail delivering mail to the very inmates he informed on. He was the chief informant for corrupt head guard Dale Shavers, and one of the few inmates to know about the secret fight club Shavers ran in which he forced inmates to fight to the death while he took bets. One of the participants in the fight club was Jones' cellmate, Devon White. It is implied that Jones was sexually abusing White, as his infirmary records showed evidence of sexual assault.
Jones was also a white supremacist who treated the African-American and Hispanic inmates in the prison with contempt.
"Lockdown"[]
When inmate Patrick Butler begins killing the guards involved in the fight club as revenge for forcing him to kill White, Shavers suspects he may be involved. He sends Jones to threaten Butler's friend Sam Pritchard, who had also witnessed White's murder, to "keep [his] damn mouth shut" to the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), who are investigating the murders. Jones also demeans Pritchard, who is Black, by calling him "boy".
Butler learns about Jones' altercation with Pritchard and decides to make Jones his next victim. He attacks Jones in the shower room, rapes him, and breaks seven of his fingers before finally scalding him to death with hot water from the shower. He leaves Jones' corpse with a sock stuffed in his mouth, as he had with his other victims.
The BAU eventually discovers Shavers' crimes, as well as Jones' complicity in them, ultimately leading to Shavers' suicide and the dissolution of the fight club.
Trivia[]
- Jones' murder is inspired by the death of Darren Rainey, who was tortured to death by prison guards with scalding shower water.
