The Rats in the House of the Dead are one of the major antagonists in the manga and anime series Bungo Stray Dogs, serving as the main antagonists of the Cannibalism Arc.
The Rats in the House of the Dead is a criminal organization led by Fyodor Dostoevsky in search of The Book that alters reality (at least according to Osamu Dazai's knowledge). However, unlike the Guild they don't have the resources nor the manpower to incinerate the city of Yokohama. So, they plan on annihilating the Port Mafia and the Armed Detective Agency.
All major members (except Mushitaro Oguri and Nathaniel Hawthorne) are a direct reference to a Russian author with the same name.

Fyodor Dostoevsky- Ability: Crime and Punishment
- The leader of the organization, Fyodor is a cryptic man who seeks to purge the world of all people gifted with supernatural powers. His ability, Crime and Punishment, allows him to take over the body of the person that killed him.

Ivan Goncharov- Ability: The Precipice
- The most loyal of the Rats, Ivan is Fyodor's right-hand man with a few screws loose. He sees Fyodor as the only person who brings joy in the world and that the people who stand in his way are evil. His ability, The Precipice, allows him to manipulate the earth around him.
Alexander Pushkin- Ability: Feast in Time of Plague
- Pushkin is a criminal with a cowardly personality and takes pleasure in hurting people with stronger powers than him. He was once detained in a European prison but escaped thanks to Fyodor and the other Rats. His ability, Feast in Time of Plague, allows him to infect people with a virus through their wounds.
Nathaniel Hawthorne- Ability: The Scarlet Letter
- A former member of The Guild and a man of God, Nathaniel agreed to join the Rats in the House of the Dead so that he can fulfill his end of a deal he made with Fyodor, the resuscitation of Margaret Mitchell. Unfortunately, Fyodor brainwashed Nathaniel of all his memories besides his memories of Margaret, turning him into a pawn and an assassin who only follows his orders. His ability, The Scarlet Letter, turns his blood into words and allows him to use it as a weapon.
Mushitaro Oguri- Ability: The Perfect Crime
- Mushitaro is a man with a big ego. Before joining the Rats, he was locked up by a crime organization working for the government called the Seventh Agency, who used him for his ability to cover up their crimes. Fyodor broke him out so he can have Mushitaro erase the tracks he and his subordinates leave behind. His ability, The Perfect Crime, allows Mushitaro to eliminate all evidence of a crime to the point where it looks like it never happened.
