Get away from my children. Have you any idea how long it took to shape their spirits into something useful? Have you any idea of the EFFORT? The FOCUS? Were it not for me, these misbegotten urchins would have perished in the winds of Fimbulwinter. But instead? They became something greater. Something magnificent. They MATTERED to the All-Father...and they mattered to ME.
~ The Raven Keeper to Kratos and Freya after they freed Odin's Ravens.

The Raven Keeper is a minor antagonist in the 2022 action-adventure video game God of War Ragnarök, where she serves as the main antagonist of the side mission "The Eyes of Odin." She was a fanatical acolyte of Odin, who was behind the creation of the Eyes of Odin.

She was voiced by Lani Minella, who also voices Tiamat in Darksiders and Mephala in The Elder Scrolls series.

Biography[]

Backstory[]

The Raven Keeper was an acolyte of Odin, who was known for performing the most sickening deeds in his name. She would write four scrolls which talked about how Asgard and Svartalfheim's defenses were secured and how there would be no way for the Vanir to fight against the Aesir, while also talking about Jörmungandr and the dwarves in Svartalfheim.

During her time serving Odin, the Raven Keeper would trick people devoted to Odin to kill their children via hanging, and after they did so, she would use the dead children's souls to create mystical ravens to serve as spies for Odin throughout the Nine Realms.

Due to her being a revenant by the time of Ragnarök, it can be presumed that, like most revenants, the Raven Keeper gave parts of her soul to get more power for herself, losing all the humanity she might have had once in her life.

God of War (2018)[]

Although she doesn't appear in the game, four scrolls that the Raven Keeper wrote can be found in Tyr's temple.

God of War Ragnarök[]

In the side quest The Eyes of Odin, Kratos would kill all of Odin's Ravens to free them from their long torment, and after freeing all of them, the Raven Keeper will appear and lash out at Kratos and Freya for freeing the ravens, calling them her children and saying that they destroyed her work.

She would then go to a small arena where she would fight Kratos and Freya, while also sending several hel-walkers and a small dragon called The Palled One, but all of them are not enough to kill them and they end up finishing off the Raven Keeper for good. The souls of the ravens would then thank Kratos and Freya for killing her.

Trivia[]

  • The Raven Keeper is the only known revenant to speak English.
