Raymond "Buffalo Ray" Curto is a supporting antagonist in the HBO Television Series The Sopranos.
He is a caporegime of the DiMeo Crime Family in New Jersey and is revealed to be a long-time informant for the FBI and is also clever enough to manipulate and use his charm to make himself look innocent to the rest of his fellow mobsters.
He was portrayed by George Loros.
Biography[]
Buffalo Ray is introduced in the first season and is a seemingly loyal member of the DiMeo Crime Family, but it is later revealed that he has been working as an informant for the FBI for many years. This dual life makes his character particularly intriguing, as he manages to maintain his position within the Mafia while secretly providing information to law enforcement.
Season 2[]
Ray Curto makes his first appearance in the episode "House Arrest." He is present at a meeting with Tony Soprano and other members of the family. At this point, his role as an informant is not yet known to the audience.
Season 3[]
In the episode "Another Toothpick," Ray is seen attending a barbecue at the Soprano household. He interacts with other mobsters, maintaining his facade as a loyal capo. His role as an informant is revealed in the episode "Army of One," where he is shown meeting with FBI Agent Robyn Sanseverino. This revelation adds a layer of tension to his character, as the audience now knows he is betraying his criminal associates.
Season 4[]

Ray Curto's storyline comes to an end in the episode "Members Only." He is seen driving his car while talking to Agent Sanseverino on the phone. Suddenly, he suffers a heart attack and dies behind the wheel. His death is significant because it means that the FBI loses a key informant within the Soprano organization. Ray Curto's character is a fascinating study of duplicity and survival. His ability to navigate the dangerous waters of organized crime while secretly working with the FBI showcases the complex and often contradictory nature of individuals involved in such high-stakes environments.
