Raymond Smith is the deuteragonist of the 2019 Guy Ritchie crime/comedy film, The Gentleman.
He is the right-hand man of Michael "Mickey" Pearson, a very powerful crime lord working in England.
He is portrayed by Charlie Hunnam who also portrayed Jax Teller in Sons Of Anarchy and Ed Gein in Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
Biography[]
Nothing is known about his past, Raymond started out working for Pearson and became his best and most trusted man.
During the film the story is narrated by an arrogant journalist named Fletcher.
Fletcher will tell a story about how after Pearson goes into business with Lord Pressfield to sell his weed dealing operation, which is the operation that sells almost all the weed in England, Pearson will show Pressfield one of the centers where he produces the grass but after doing so some kids will go and steal it after their coach finds out he will go to Raymond to apologize and help him find the culprit.
After kidnapping Dry Eye's lieutenant, the son of an important triad boss, the lieutenant will escape but die after being hit by a train.
Pearson will go to Dry Eye's father for explanations and after poisoning him he gives them the cure and leaves.
After killing his father, Dry Eye and Pearson will try to weaken Pearson's operation and succeed, but after doing so, Dry Eye will be killed while Pearson will be forced to pay the agreed sum instead of lowering the price.
Meanwhile, a Russian oligarch angry at the death caused by a mistake of one of Raymond's men will try to send his men to kill Raymond but will fail. Fletcher, after trying to threaten Raymond, thanks to his cunning, manages to escape but will be captured again and probably killed.
Personality[]
Raymond has obsessive compulsive disorder and hates dirty or messy things. This includes dirty or messy people.
He has a very calm and cold personality. He doesn't have a typical personality that a normal villain would have, in fact he hates to hurt or commit actions that are too cruel.
Obviously he also has some negative traits, for example, he feels superior to others, often to people who are in more difficult situations or who are weaker than him, he belittles and bullies those who don't like him but he also knows how to respect those who deserve it.
