When the two become captured, Red shows signs of caring and attempts to break them out of the palace's dungeons only to be caught.

Biography[]

Background[]

Red was born in Wonderland as the only child to the King and Queen of Hearts, she was raised under her mother's strict rules and eventually attended Wonderland High once she was old enough where she eventually met Chester who at the time was a new student. Red soon meets another boy named Ace who was home-schooled, she then becomes forced into doing princess training for the upcoming annual Tea Ceremony only to eventually skip when prompted to by her newfound friends, the three attempt to escape Wonderland after throwing a party, an event which is banned in Wonderland, she later witnesses her friends being captured and taken away where the next day, she sees them transformed with Ace as a Soldier Card and Chester as a cat which causes her to vow to herself to burn her homeland for revenge.

Beyond The Isle of the Lost: Wonderland: A Descendants[]

Red is introduced as the princess of Wonderland and the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, the ruler of Wonderland. When the Queen declares that Red will issue a royal decree at the annual Wonderland Tea Ceremony (aka she'll come up with new ridiculous laws). Red, loathing the idea of following in her mother’s crimson-heeled footsteps, bands together with her new friends, Ace and Chester to plan the ultimate rebellion: a party.

Descendants: The Rise of Red[]

Red vandalizes a part of Wonderland to get back at her mother for what she had done to Ace and Chester, while avoiding the Crimson Army. The chase continues, until Red is cornered by Jack of Diamonds and his army, but fortunately for the princess of hearts, she is taken by the machinery of her tutor, Maddox Hatter, to his room. The two have a conversation about Red's future, about how she can't continue her path of destruction and rebellion since one day he won't be there to save her, to which Red resplies what she can do while being imprisoned in Wonderland, and feeling like a lost cause thanks to her mother (The Queen of Hearts), who only cares that Red rules Wonderland with an iron fist at her side. After telling her that it's not easy having a controlling mother, Maddox tells her that the Queen wasn't always like this, and shows her the Pocket Watch (A time machine). But he warns her that changing the time structure can be dangerous, Red responds that she can handle that responsibility, which leaves Maddox unconvinced about giving her the watch, deciding to give it to her when Red is more mature, since he cares about her. After which, Red hugs him, thanking him, and upon hearing that the guards are still looking for the fugitive who was vandalizing the streets, Maddox sends her through a tube to her room, where Red observes the Pocket Watch that she took from Maddox after hugging him, Red was about to press the button to activate the watch but something stops her, Maddox's warning words echo in her head that she could alter the fabric of time or even lose her mother, so she decides to save it for another occasion when it is necessary.

The next morning, after vandalizing the royal plaza, Red meets with her mother, who was upset by the mess caused the night before. Seeing her daughter, the Queen of Hearts scolds her daughter for her clothing, but Red just doesn't give it any importance. After Jack of Diamonds informs the Queen that the fugitive they were chasing the night before escaped from them, the Queen of Hearts becomes angry at the Diamond General's failed task, so she decides to punish him, giving Red the opportunity to choose the General's punishment, much to the surprise of Jack and Red, knowing that she couldn't hurt anyone, much less someone innocent, Red chooses to take his helmet away from him as punishment. Whereupon her mother tells her that it is better to be feared than loved, and gives her another opportunity to choose a real and painful punishment. Red meditates on this under pressure from her mother, but fortunately is interrupted by Maddox, who delivers a letter to the Queen, where Uma, the new principal of Auradon Prep,  invites her and her daughter to visit the school so that Red may be a new student. To the surprise of Red, who expected her mother to refuse, but the Queen accepts the invitation to go to Auradon. Red asks Maddox when her mother had a heart, but her thoughts quickly change when the Queen of Hearts tells her to dress up as she doesn't want to be embarrassed at the homecoming ceremony.

After a car trip in the Queen's car, Red and her mother arrive at Auradon Prep, where they meet Cinderella, an old acquaintance of the Queen of Hearts, and her daughter Chloe, who although she greets Red friendly, the latter is arrogant and mean towards her. Red is surprised to see that her mother had a past with Cinderella, and that they both attended the same school. The Queen shows Red through her Looking Glass that her future is to rule the two together. To which Red replies that she doesn't want to be like her, but that offends the Queen, who tells her that she has no choice, and that they are more alike than she thinks. Then, Uma welcomes the students and their parents, but is interrupted by the Queen of Hearts, who, summons her soldiers, using a deck of cards, to hold everyone present and begin a coup, so Red sees that that was the reason why her mother accepted the invitation. To which Red complains to her mother for ruining her life but the Queen does not care, nor does she take her daughter's complaint seriously, claiming that "she did everything for her" and so that she could have a better future, so Red was about to start a fight but is stopped by Cinderella, who intervenes and tries to stop her, but the Queen thinks about getting revenge on her for what happened in her past, mentioning that she was humiliated at her first dance. Although Red sees that it is wrong, the Queen gives her the choice between defending strangers, or being loyal to her and making her proud of her for once. Thinking about it, Red decides that Cinderella is guilty of treason, causing everyone to see her as equal to her mother. After Cinderella is taken away by the guards, Chloe tries to draw her sword to defend her mother, but Red tries to stop her, and during the struggle, the Pocket Watch ends up transporting them both.

The two girls find themselves back in the courtyard, except that there is no one there anymore, to their incomprehension. An encounter with a young and inexperienced Fairy Godmother makes them realize that they have gone back a long way in time, which Red realizes first to Chloe's detriment. With Red wanting to take advantage of the opportunity to change history, Chloe is more concerned about her mother's fate in the present and demands that Red hand over the watch, leading them to a musical confrontation. The confrontation is more argumentative than violent, with the two commonly objecting that they are on opposing sides as they struggle to keep the watch individually, but the girls eventually conclude that they must work together because they have no better alternative. Chloe then questions her about her motivations and Red explains that she does not want to become the next princess of Auradon due to her mother doing everything she can to make her become another version of herself, which she refuses.

As soon as they realize they are at Merlin Academy, the past version of Auradon Prep, Chloe deduces that the Castlecoming Festival will be the key moment when the Queen of Hearts becomes the tyrannical being she is in modern times, the moment she was humiliated and thus the moment the duo must change. Afterwards, they meet Principal Merlin and pose as transfer students to go undercover. In chemistry class, Red and Chloe meet the younger versions of their mothers: Bridget and Ella, respectively. Red is very surprised that Bridget is such a cheerful and optimistic girl, the complete opposite of the Queen of Heart, making Red equally uncomfortable. Bridget then begins singing "Life Is Sweeter" while offering flamingo cupcakes to the students, followed by Red, Chloe, and Ella. Red becomes attracted to a young Charming until Chloe points out that he is her father, which disgusts Red. This is where the Uliana Gang appears, composed of Maleficent, Hades, Morgie, Hook and their gang leader Uliana. Uliana then steals the flamingo feathers and eats them all, temporarily changing her into a humanoid flamingo and causing her to fall into a fountain while angrily chasing Bridget and Ella. Red and Chloe quickly figure out that Uliana is the one responsible for Bridget's future humiliation, with the prank being Uliana's revenge for making a fool of herself.

With Bridget unaware of the danger she is in and Castlecoming taking place in two days, Red and Chloe visit Ella at her home to get information on Uliana, learning that she is based at the Black Lagoon. Similarly, Ella tells Red that Bridget is a very strong person because she remains kind and devoted no matter the evil around her, causing Red to rethink her opinion of the younger version of her mother. Unfortunately, Chloe accidentally breaks a vase, making Ella's cruel stepmother, Lady Tremaine, so angry that she punishes Ella accordingly. Red would rather let an upset Ella relax as best she could than let Chloe try to interfere again.

The duo travel to the Black Lagoon and stealthily follow Uliana's Gang to their lair, a massive deep-sea fish. From the outside, tearing open the fish's skin to spy on its interior, Red and Chloe discover that Uliana is plotting to steal a book of witchcraft to turn Bridget into a hideous monster. Once the Gang leaves, the girls return to shore, only to be attacked by Jetsam who nearly eats Chloe, but Red scares the giant moray eel away by stabbing it in the face with a stick. Back in their room, debating how to save the mothers they never thought they'd see in such a different light, Red comes to the realization that she'd rather have a mother like Bridget than anything, even though she doesn't think it's possible. Chloe suggests they go talk to her about the book.

Visiting Bridget in her room, Red quickly discusses with her the bad relationship she has with her mother and Bridget feels quite sad for her, unaware that Red is talking about her future self. As they ask if Bridget has a particular cookbook and the young girl begins searching, Red and Chloe look back at their time through the Looking Glass, seeing the Queen of Hearts taunting a devastated Charming following Cinderella's execution, much to Red's shock and Chloe's sadness. Bridget then informs them that she does not have the cookbook, leading the duo to learn that the famous book they are looking for is a banned one, kept in Merlin's office.

With the information finally in their possession, the girls unfortunately begin to argue over how to get the book, with Chloe thinking that they should talk to Merlin about it while Red rejects the idea and suggests that they take the book themselves before Uliana does. Chloe finds it risky with the office being enchanted as well as the objects inside, especially since Castecoming is only tomorrow. Their argument brings them back to their initial behavior towards each other, with Red eventually going too far by recalling Cinderella's fate, leading Chloe to call her evil, just like her mom. Although hurt by the words, Red does not change her mind, deciding to change the future, even if she has to do it alone.

When night falls, Red sneaks into the main building, unaware that the Uliana Gang is watching her. She then picks the lock on the principal's office door, only to be joined by Chloe who has come to accept that sometimes you have to have dirty hands to do the right thing, much to Red's surprise. While searching for the book inside the office, they accidentally activate the magical security system, causing them to fight flying swords while an owl statue flies away to warn Merlin. Red first puts an end to the swords by knocking out the second owl statue, only for the latter to summon an animated knight armor that then attacks Red as the owl tries to escape with the book. Chloe sacrifices her glass shoes that her mother gave her to knock out the owl, obliterating the armor before it can kill Red. Unfortunately for the girls, Uliana, Hades, Maleficent and Hook burst in and grab the book. Red doesn't want to let them do it, but Chloe stops her from attacking because they are outnumbered. As soon as Uliana opens the book, the Gang ends up magically petrified, as Bridget had warned the girls earlier about the consequences if wrong hands wanted to open the book. After teasing the mean students enough, Red wants to let Chloe open the book since she still doesn't smell like a villain at all, but Chloe encourages him to open it, now convinced that Red really is a good person. Chloe's intuition proves correct, Red is able to open the book without a counterspell. The duo then escape the office before Merlin arrives.

Back in their room basking in their victory, Red begins to fear returning home and discovering that her mother has not changed, but Chloe assures her that even if the Queen of Hearts remains the same, Red will never become like her. Taking courage, Red activates the watch, sending the two girls back to their own time. Once back, things seem to repeat themselves to their dismay, but it turns out that Cinderella is still alive and the Queen of Hearts has indeed changed, being now a kind and good-hearted sovereign, more like Bridget. With the cover of "Life Is Sweeter," Red can finally tell her mother how much she loves her.

While Red and Chloe's actions seem to have brought about a happy ending, Uma states that altering the curve of time is not without consequences, adding that the story is not over yet.
