Soviet Armed Forces (Russian: Вооружённые Силы Советского Союза), also known as the Red Army, are some of the main antagonists/protagonists of the Call of Duty franchise.
Though some of their troops were playable and served as some of the main protagonists in the games set during the Second World War, the Red Army serve as major antagonists in the Black Ops sub-series which has games set in the Cold War.
Biography[]
Call of Duty[]
The Soviet Campaign is featured, with the playable character, Alexei Ivanovich Voronin, being a member of the 13th Rifle Guards Division. The 150th Rifle Division is also featured, whereby soldiers from the division capture the Reichstag, and plant the Soviet flag over Berlin.
Call of Duty 2[]
In the Soviet Campaign, the 13th Rifle Guards Division makes a return, with the playable character being Private. Vasili Ivanovich Koslov. Koslov received training from Commissar Letlev in Stalingrad and would later participate in the Battle of Stalingrad.
World at War[]

In the Soviet Campaign, the 3rd Shock Army is featured prominently, battling Nazi Germany form Stalingrad, and pushing into Berlin. The playable character is Private Dimitri Petrenko, who is under the command of Sergeant Viktor Reznov, whom he assists in killing Nazi General Heinrich Amsel. The Red Army and 3rd Shock Army managed to push into Berlin, and capture the Reichstag, thus defeating Nazi Germany.
Black Ops[]
The Red Army became rivals to the United States, wanting to become a superpower after the Second World War. Though antagonists in the campaign, the sub-faction, Russian Spetsnaz, are the main antagonists in most mission. Nikita Dragovich worked with Lev Kravchenko and Nazi scientist Friedrich Steiner in trying to eliminate the west, as they worked on weaponing Nova 6 and planting sleeper agents in the United States. Though they nearly succeeded, they were thwarted by Viktor Reznov, who reprogrammed Alex Mason into killing the three to get revenge for killing Petrenko.

According to Lev Kravchenko, the Soviet Union was dying during the 1980s, and attempted to sell military weapons to foreign countries for profit. The Soviet Union attempted to take control over Afghanistan and had to battle the Mujahideen. In addition, Woods states that if the Russian win the battle in Afghanistan, they would be looking at China next. The Soviet Union and Kravchenko failed to capture Afghanistan, as they were stopped by the Mujahideen, Chinese and American forces.
Nazi Zombies[]
In Treyarch's Nazi Zombies, one of the playable characters in Nikolai Belinski, who is a recurring character in the Ultimus and Primis storylines. in Call of Duty: WWII, the Red Army appears in the Nazi Zombies map, "The Shadowed Throne". Dead soldiers of the Red Army can be found across the map, and T-34 tanks can be seen in the intro cinematic. The Red Army is led by Captain Mikhail Saburov during the Battle of Berlin, who is also a member of the Bureau of Archaic Technologies.
