The Red Circus are major antagonists in the Spy × Family series. They were a former student organization in Ostania, until the SSS started cracking down on their protests, causing them to devolve into a terrorist group. They serve as the overarching antagonists of the Extra Mission 2 from the Imperial Scholars Mixer Arc and the titular main antagonists of the Red Circus Arc.

Background[]
The Red Circus was originally founded by Ostanian college students demanding greater freedom. Biddy Squire became a member despite the objections of her father Billy Squire, wanting a better future for Ostania. After a few days, the SSS opened fire on the peaceful student demonstrations, killing Biddy and several others. This event led Billy into madness, as he took over the remnants of the Red Circus and re-organized it.
Eventually, the Red Circus became complicit in various terroristic activities throughout Ostania, primarily targeting the government. They ended up attracting the attention of Garden, who then sent Yor Forger to eradicate a terrorist cell at Berlint.

Trivia[]
- Although not explicitly stated, it's heavily implied that the Red Circus is a communist organization, as they are described as a "far left group" who have an ideology centered on equality and a disdain for the upper class of Ostania. The "Red" in their name could also be a nod to how the color was adopted by various communist and socialist movements, most notably the russian Bolsheviks, as part of their iconography.
- This would also be somewhat ironic, considering Ostania is based off the real life East Germany, which already was a socialist nation.
