The Red Dragons are supporting antagonists from Heroes of Might and Magic II and III. They were the infamous dragons of the world of Enroth and the forces of Nighon, frequent allies of the forces of evil, but rarely fighting on the side of good.

History[]

The origin of the red dragons is unknown, but they appeared early on on the side of the overlords. Later, during the Second War of Enrothian Succession, they were used more often, but along with the black dragons, their role was increasingly reduced in the later stages. After the end of the war, they joined the forces of Nighon and participated in the invasion of Erathia. They occurred in greater numbers when the famous dragon hunter, Dracon, wanted to destroy the nest of azure dragons, where many other separate species lived. He killed hundreds of such dragons before finally destroying the others and the azure dragons as well.

After that, the new dragon quuen of Nighon, Mutare Drake, wanted to conquer the world, in which she planned to create her own dragon army. Her allies were the evil dragons, including the red and black dragons, but he managed to possess or bewitch some of the good dragons, the green and gold dragons, who left their homes. After that, the red dragons were given two roles. Some of them guarded the good dragons with the black dragons, while the rest went into the enemy's territories to wreak havoc. However, the immortal hero Tarnum set out with the elves of Avlee to free the good dragons and stop Mutare. When he got down to a cave system, he saw four red dragons fighting against a green one. In the unequal struggle, the good dragon died, but the immortal hero avenged it death by destroying his killers. After that and several other fights, he finally found the place where the good dragons were being held. The red and black dragons prepared to fight, but in the end they were defeated and died, and Tarnum freed the good dragons with an artifact, the Vial of Dragon Blood. Meanwhile, Mutare gained new allies, extremely powerful types of dragons, including the rust, crystal and azure dragons. The red dragons were also still a threat, and they began to attack the cliffs of the green dragons and torment some of them with their breath, but Tarnum killed them. Once the army of dragons that served Mutare was effectively unified, the red dragons became a bit of a minor role monsters as the other dragon races were much stronger. Another problem was that in the later and final stages of the war, they presented almost no problems at all to their opponents and their effectiveness was minimal. There was only a change after Mutare died and Tarnum took over the leadership of Nighon. For a while, the red dragons were able to show their ability to pose a threat again, but they were gradually replaced by the black and azure dragons. After the Recnonking, none of these dragons were seen in the world of Axeoth, so it is likely that the black dragons survived and the red dragons died out.

Powers and abilities[]

Strengths[]

Red dragons were notorious and powerful creatures of Enroth. In addition to their strength and fiery breath, they were dangerous because they were immune to most magic and spells. They easily destroyed a small group by themselves or smaller armies.

Weaknesses[]

Red dragons were useful in most situations, but were not decisive in many fights as they had weak points. They were effective against most creatures, but less so against stronger ones. They were only stronger against the green dragons, less so against the others, and against the legendary dragons such as the azure, rust, crystal or black dragons, they had almost no chance at all. Another weakness was that while they were immune to most magic and spells, they were not immune to the most powerful ones, so a very powerful mage, wizard, or warlock could take on them.
