Red Rackham is the overarching antagonist of The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, as well as its Nelvana cartoon adaption. He was a pirate known as the archnemesis of Sir Francis Haddock, the ancestor of Captain Archibald Haddock.
Biography[]
In life[]
Red Rackham and Sir Francis Haddock battled each other on their ships, Haddock and his crew managed to sink Red Rackham's ship. Despite this, Rackham's crew boarded Haddock's ship and killed all his crew while Haddock himself was strapped to the mast. Due to his ship sinking, Rackham and his crew moved all their stolen goods, such as diamonds from a Spanish ship they robbed three days prior, to The Unicorn.
Rackham and Haddock converse, introducing themselves, Rackham telling Haddock how he is upset over having half of his men killed and how his crew are now moving all their stolen goods to The Unicorn, personally showing the diamonds to Haddock. Haddock himself is bewildered as pirates tend to steal treasure from pirates to their ships
Sir Francis freed himself by getting his hand left hand freed. Francis goes to the magazine of the ship and lights a fuse to blow up the ship. However, he encounters Rackham and they duel with cutlasses. Rackham uses his foot to extinguish the fuse but dies very quickly in the fight. Haddock lights the fuse again and escapes the ship exploding, acquiring treasure along the way.
Posthumous activities[]
Sir Francis would tell the tale of his encounter with Red Rackham to his descendants. Sir Francis' descendant, Archibald Haddock, would tell the tale of Sir Francis' encounter with Red Rackham to Tintin in Archibald's apartment. Archibald and Tintin would later explore the ruins of the ship and obtain manuscripts.

- His connection with Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine was a novel addition to the film. Red Rackahm did not have any known descendants in the comics.
- According Hergé, he is based on the historical pirates Jack Rackham alias "Calico Jack" and Daniel Montbars alias "the Exterminator".
