Red Skull is a supporting antagonist in the animated TV shows Spider-Man (1981) and Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, serving as the main antagonists of the episodes "Quest of the Red Skull" and "The Capture of Captain America".

He was voiced by Peter Cullen, who also portrayed Venger from Dungeons & Dragons, Nemesis Prime from Transformers: Prime and The Last Knight, and Captain Flint from Treasure Island.

Biography[]

In "Quest of the Red Skull", he first appears when he breaks into professor Hiawatha Smith's house in order to find the Scorpio engraving and then proceeds to knock him out using gas and states he will take him to his headquarters for questions and proceeds to laugh sadistically.

He then finds the Scorpio engraving and declares it to be the path to the greatest treasure on Earth. We then see Red Skull is about to have Hiawatha Smith fed to his python and then reveals his intent to be the next Hitler and to start World War 3, stating that the Germans will win this time.

Later, Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar join Hiawatha Smith in South America, where the treasure is hidden and get involved in Red Skull's plans. Red Skull then orders his henchmen to use explosives to trap them underground and then kill them by using a drill tank. Later on, Red Skull and his henchmen knock out Firestar using gases and then put her in a capsule in their lair. He later captures the rest of the gang and then ties them to rockets and reveals his plan to launch rockets at the US, and then tricking them into thinking it was the Soviet Union and then causing them to attack the Union. which would have caused the deaths of millions and would leave him as the only powerful figure people would look up to.

When Hiawatha Smith saves Firestar and tries to save the other two, Red Skull then fires the rockets the two are on and attempts to have it hit the USA. When the two are saved and his plans are thwarted, Red Skull attempts to claim the treasure after Spider-Man offers to save his life. Skull Island is then blown up.

Skull later returns in "The Capture of Captain America". He first appears when someone named Dr. Neeman enters his office in his castle and Red Skull warns him against protesting anything that goes against Red Skull and later tells him to get the weapons ready to strike on Captain America Day.

He then later shows up disguised as J. Jonah Jameson during Captain America Day. After revealing himself, he then fires at innocents using his laser. He then knocks out Captain America using his gas and then ties him up and kidnaps him and takes him to his castle.

He then demonstrates a mind swapping device on a cat and a dog. He then reveals his plan to transfer his mind into the hero's body, planning the Cap to be trapped in Red Skull's body forever.

Later, he is then seen attempting to have their bodies swapped, while mocking Cap as Red Skull doesn't want to inhabit a "tired body". When Spider-Man shows up and saves Cap, Red Skull tries to kill them both by firing at them using lasers. He is then last seen being subjected to the mind-swapping device with nobody else in the other chair, which kills him and causes his consciousness into being a disembodied spirit that is unable to harm anyone.
