Red Spade was presumably formed seven years prior to the start of the series, after Bunzo Yazaki was presumed dead. They grew large by absorbing other criminal gangs, eventually growing large enough to have branches in multiple countries.
In one scheme of theirs, they had their agent Bill Iwaki hold a building full of people hostage in exchange for ransom money. When Iwaki was captured, the Red Spade employed Kenzo Kurita, who had lost his son due to Iwaki, in a scheme to demand the police hand him over so they could kill him. To accomplish the task, Red Spade provided Kenzo with bombs and two Humanoids to assist him with the operation. After the scheme was thwarted, the mysterious Boss of Red Spade decided to target Exceedraft to ensure they wouldn't interfere in any more of their schemes.
In another plan, the Red Spade funding the research institute of Toru Ayabe, which was experimenting on children to turn them into psychics. After Exceedraft discovered what Ayabe was doing and stopped his experiments, the Boss of Red Spade sent them a message declaring that they would be targeted by Red Spade.
