You have forgotten that our people were born in blood... the blood of the Carja!
~ Regalla's declaration.

Regalla is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Erik Visser) of the 2022 video game Horizon Forbidden West.

She is a former Marshal of the Tenakth tribe and a former member of the Desert Clan who would become the leader of a splinter faction of Tenakth Rebels.

In reality, Sylens would create and use the rebel Tenakth army as means for Regalla to usurp Hekarro's position as the Chief, uniting all of the three clans, albeit ruthlessly, for the incoming conflict: launching an attack on the Far Zenith base. However, her plans would be foiled by the Nora Huntress Aloy, and she was either killed by Kotallo or by a Specter drone during the attack on the Zenith base.

She is voiced and motion-captured by Angela Bassett, who also played Shatter in Bumblebee.

Personality[]

Regalla is barbaric and warrior-driven, who will stop at nothing to destroy the Carja, her mortal enemies, largely because of Jiran's attack towards the tribe in the Red Raids, which resulted in the brutal deaths of her family, and where the tribes majority were killed or scarred.

Much like Helis in Horizon Zero Dawn, Regalla is easily manipulated, especially when Sylens secretly orchestrated the rebellion by using her vengeful hate against the Carja and Hekarro, as means to unify the three Tenakth clans at once and fight off the Far Zenith army, though she and her army would be unmatched.

Background[]

Desert Tenakth and Betrayal[]

Regalla was a former clanswoman of the Desert Tenakth tribe, which is one of the three main Tenakth factions in the Forbidden West, who formerly served as a Marshal to the Tenakth's chief known as Hekarro.

During Jiran's reign, Regalla's younger brothers were captured, tortured, and burnt alive, driving her motivations to be Hekarro's most loyal Marshal of the Tenakth.

At some point in time, however, Regalla grew disillusioned with Hekarro and Avad's fragile peace treaty between the Tenakth and Carja, respectively, forcing her to turn against him and her own tribe, as a whole, when she lost a skirmish against Hekarro.

Some time later on, after being spared by Hekarro, Regalla's fate would greatly change, when she met up with Sylens, a highly intelligent Banuk wanderer with considerable knowledge of the Old Ones. There, Regalla would later strike a deal with Sylens to assemble the rebel army, comprising of rebel Tenakth members. Later on, it extends to the rebel Oseram tribesmen, dubbing this particular rebel arm of the Oseram tribe as the Sons of Prometheus.

With a deadly assemblage of Regalla's rebel Tenakth army and the Sons of Prometheus, Regalla's forces later gain the ability to override machines, an ability that they obtained from Sylens, and would later bolster her army to destroy Hekarro and take over his position, once and for all, unaware that this part of their deal is used to reunite the three Tenakth clans altogether to fight an even greater threat on Earth: the Far Zenith humans.

The Embassy[]

Regalla and her rebels were first seen at the Embassy at Barren Light, confronting Aloy, Varl, Nozar, Lawan, Fashav, and several members of the Sky Tenakth clan. From there, Regalla would proclaim to the Sky Tenakth clansmen that they were born from the blood of the Carja, presumably alluding to Jiran's reign of terror during his ruling.

She proceeds to call out the Tenakth under Hekarro's leadership as conspirators, who would claim that the Embassy is proof, and furiously blamed the Marshals for being "accomplices" for siding with the Carja, before she orders her rebel army to massacre them on the spot, where her champion Grudda would soon join in on the fight. Aloy and Varl, as well as the Tenakth, would later foil Regalla's invasion.

The Kulrut[]

Regalla and her rebels, along with their army of machines, would later sabotage the event known as the Kulrut, a trial-by-combat promotion used to promote new Marshals of the Tenakth tribe, in the Memorial Grove. There, Regalla would attempt to assassinate Hekarro again, but a last-minute intervention of Aloy and the Tenakth tribesmen prevented it from happening, much to Regalla's anger.

The Wings of the Ten[]

In a last-ditch effort to overthrow Hekarro and unify all three Tenakth clans together, on the orders of Sylens, to bolster Regalla's army and fight off the Far Zeniths, Regalla and her rebels would then proceed to unleash a full-scale invasion on the Memorial Grove.

However, Aloy would then immediately paralyse Regalla's convoy of overridden machines with the FAS-BOR7 Horus's Energy Cell from above, forcing Regalla and her rebels with no other choice but to fight Hekarro's Tenakth army on foot to the Grove, and with Regalla on the hot pursuit for Hekarro. Regalla would then successfully corner Hekarro and Kotallo, as the two were about to fall to their demises, but Aloy would fight off Regalla for one last time in a final showdown.

In spite of Regalla's brute force, Aloy would immediately defeat her in the battle, forcing Regalla to surrender and end her reign of terror against the main Tenakth clan. Regardless of Regalla's fate, her fate remains to be sealed, albeit the circumstances regarding it will be different.

Fate[]

Killed by Kotallo[]

Regalla would be killed by Kotallo with the latter's spear, as means to atone for her crimes.

Spared by Aloy[]

Regalla would later join in with Aloy's allies to fight off against the Far Zeniths within Gerard Bieri's Zenith base. However, she would sacrifice herself by fighting off the Specter drones to help Aloy and her remaining allies, including Sylens.

Abilities[]

  • Combat Prowess: Being a member of the Tenakth, a tribe of warriors, Regalla is shown to have a considerable amount of combat skills, able to overpower several Tenakth clansmen in combat.
  • Leadership: Regalla is the leader of her rebel Tenakth army.
