~ A file from a scientist about the Regeneratores. |
Regeneradores, more commonly known as Regenerators are notorious enemies in Resident Evil 4 and among the most dangerous hosts of Las Plagas. Instead of trying to create a new form of Ganado, Osmund Saddler invested some research into creating proper bioweapons using his parasites. After extensive time and research, the Regenerador was created and for all intents and purposes was an incredible success.
Widely regarded as one of, if not the most terrifying enemy in the series, these shambling horrors (who can sprint in the remake) are almost impossible to kill, thanks to their namesake, their unparalleled healing factor. If one Regenerador wasn't bad enough, they have an even more powerful variant, the Iron Maiden, who unleash a storm of needle like spines upon their victims.
Behavior[]
Both interpretations of Regeneradors depicted them as erratic and shambling predators which are as tenacious as they are voracious. Plaga experimentations which created them had taken their toll on their original intelligence just as how those who revived as zombies via. T-Virus infection reduced into mindless, blood-thirsty creatures; these creatures now solely driven by the desire to feed any unfortunate preys they come across regardless of the threats they pose.
As detailed in Subject Analysis: Regenerador and Case 2002-f: Escaped Test Subject, two of files Leon can find in remake version of the game, the researcher who responsible for their creation realized too late that Regeneradors' aforementioned intelligence loss and namesake ability proved to be a horrific combination; one of these creatures wreaked havoc upon managed to free itself during a power outage. It killed 7 of Los Illuminados' researchers and injured 19 before being contained once more 20 hours later. Said incident, coupled with Leon's harrowing encounters with these creatures cemented Regeneradors to be malicious and out-of-control abominations.
Abilities[]
As given by their name, Regeneradores boast such potent regenerative capability that they seem almost impossible to slay. Boasting the strongest healing factor in the entire series, Regeneradores are capable of regenerating lost limbs and pieces of their body in a matter of seconds, including their heads. This is due to having not one, but three Plagas residing within their bodies. This, while giving them their immense power, is also their only but major weakness. They can regenerate from almost anything so long as the parasites within their body remain, and can even keep doing so if they lose most of their resident Plagas. However, losing all of them triggers a catastrophic chain reaction within them, causing them to explode and instantly perish. Likewise, complete and total destruction of their body is something they cannot heal through.
Due to their extreme regeneration, Regeneradores also have a strangely malleable body. They are able to inhumanly contort their bodies and limbs into almost any shape or manner they please, and are able to attack even from afar by stretching out their arms to attack foes or grab them, and pull them into range to tear into with their massive mouths filled with fangs. As they are created as bioweapons, Regeneradores are able to follow orders by dominant Plagas and function alongside others infected with the parasites, otherwise, they are known to violently attack anything in sight.
To make matters worse, Regeneradores have a subtype (or evolution in the remake), the Iron Maiden. Functionally identical to the standard Regeneradores, these monstrosities are covered head to toe in lethal spines they can grow and expand to immense sizes. This lets the Iron Maiden attack from afar and cover a wide area in spines, and can guarantee a kill by grabbing someone and pulling them in to impale them dozens of times over. Some even feature more Plagas in their body. Even when dead, the resulting explosion can still kill anyone caught in the blast as spines are sent everywhere with lethal force. One weakness Iron Maidens have their Regeneradores counterparts don't, is that they lack eyes and are completely blind. However, their sense of hearing makes up for this.
