This new creation of mine is essentially immortal. Surely, even Dr. Frankenstein himself would want to shake my hand in admiration!
~ A file from a scientist about the Regeneratores.

Regeneradores, more commonly known as Regenerators are notorious enemies in Resident Evil 4 and among the most dangerous hosts of Las Plagas. Instead of trying to create a new form of Ganado, Osmund Saddler invested some research into creating proper bioweapons using his parasites. After extensive time and research, the Regenerador was created and for all intents and purposes was an incredible success.

Widely regarded as one of, if not the most terrifying enemy in the series, these shambling horrors (who can sprint in the remake) are almost impossible to kill, thanks to their namesake, their unparalleled healing factor. If one Regenerador wasn't bad enough, they have an even more powerful variant, the Iron Maiden, who unleash a storm of needle like spines upon their victims.

Appearance[]

The design of the Regenerador is surprisingly minimalistic, lacking any special distinguishing traits. They have grey skin and red eyes, and wear no clothing. They are all identical, possessing no characteristics unique from one another, and lacking ears, noses, and sexual organs. They have slight claws and their teeth are extremely sharp, using both during their attack animations. They also can extend their arms to grab Leon. They do not possess the ability to speak, instead taking deep breaths. In the 2024 remake, they are depicted as having highly loose and flabby skin, and their teeth are even more prominent. Their red eyes also now glow in the dark.

The alternate form of the Regenerador, the Iron Maiden, bears, for the most part, no gigantic structural changes. The most notable change is that the Iron Maiden is covered with spikes protruding from it's skin, which have the ability to elongate and deal massive damage to Leon. In addition, it's eyes have disappeared, and it's mouth now takes up the majority of it's face, with a split down the middle of it's forehead.

Behavior[]

Both interpretations of Regeneradors depicted them as erratic and shambling predators which are as tenacious as they are voracious. Plaga experimentations which created them had taken their toll on their original intelligence just as how those who revived as zombies via. T-Virus infection reduced into mindless, blood-thirsty creatures; these creatures now solely driven by the desire to feed any unfortunate preys they come across regardless of the threats they pose.

As detailed in Subject Analysis: Regenerador and Case 2002-f: Escaped Test Subject, two of files Leon can find in remake version of the game, the researcher who responsible for their creation realized too late that Regeneradors' aforementioned intelligence loss and namesake ability proved to be a horrific combination; one of these creatures wreaked havoc upon managed to free itself during a power outage. It killed 7 of Los Illuminados' researchers and injured 19 before being contained once more 20 hours later. Said incident, coupled with Leon's harrowing encounters with these creatures cemented Regeneradors to be malicious and out-of-control abominations.

Abilities[]

As given by their name, Regeneradores boast such potent regenerative capability that they seem almost impossible to slay. Boasting the strongest healing factor in the entire series, Regeneradores are capable of regenerating lost limbs and pieces of their body in a matter of seconds, including their heads. This is due to having not one, but three Plagas residing within their bodies. This, while giving them their immense power, is also their only but major weakness. They can regenerate from almost anything so long as the parasites within their body remain, and can even keep doing so if they lose most of their resident Plagas. However, losing all of them triggers a catastrophic chain reaction within them, causing them to explode and instantly perish. Likewise, complete and total destruction of their body is something they cannot heal through.

Due to their extreme regeneration, Regeneradores also have a strangely malleable body. They are able to inhumanly contort their bodies and limbs into almost any shape or manner they please, and are able to attack even from afar by stretching out their arms to attack foes or grab them, and pull them into range to tear into with their massive mouths filled with fangs. As they are created as bioweapons, Regeneradores are able to follow orders by dominant Plagas and function alongside others infected with the parasites, otherwise, they are known to violently attack anything in sight.

To make matters worse, Regeneradores have a subtype (or evolution in the remake), the Iron Maiden. Functionally identical to the standard Regeneradores, these monstrosities are covered head to toe in lethal spines they can grow and expand to immense sizes. This lets the Iron Maiden attack from afar and cover a wide area in spines, and can guarantee a kill by grabbing someone and pulling them in to impale them dozens of times over. Some even feature more Plagas in their body. Even when dead, the resulting explosion can still kill anyone caught in the blast as spines are sent everywhere with lethal force. One weakness Iron Maidens have their Regeneradores counterparts don't, is that they lack eyes and are completely blind. However, their sense of hearing makes up for this.

Subject Analysis: Regenerador

Date: April 9

At last, I have created new life. I call it "Regenerador."

Its metabolic capacity is incredible. Unless all the parasites residing within the organism are destroyed, its tissue can regenerate indefinitely.

Date: April 10

Upon examining the body with a biosensor scope, I was able to confirm that the parasites behave like vital organs for the host, almost as through it has multiple hearts!

This new creation of mine is essentially immortal. Surely, even Dr. Frankenstein himself would want to shake my hand in admiration!

Date: April 13

I shared the news of my achievement with that pretentious bastard colleague of mine. His face went white! Then, he started scribbling something in his notebook. I thought he'd be impressed, but instead he actually had the nerve to warn me of the so-called dangers.

He's a fool. I have everything under control.

The subject went wild and escaped from its cryogenic tank.

Case 2002-f: Escaped Test Subject

During a recent power outage, a test subject awoke from cryogenic stasis, broke out of its holding tank, and escaped.

The subject was contained after 20 hours, leaving 7 dead and 19 wounded. We were unable to recover one of the bodies and a tool from inside it.

The cause of this unfortunate incident is the unstable power supply. The outdated generators cannot keep up with our demanding schedule.

Management must prioritize the needs of the engineers over those of the researchers to prevent something like this ever happening again.
~ Case 2002-f: Escaped Test Subject, which details an incident about escaping Regenerador.
