Regina is a secondary antagonist of the anime series Doki Doki! Pretty Cure, being the daughter of King Jikochuu and thus the Selfish Agents' superior. Over the course of the series, she strikes up a friendship with Aida Mana.

She was voiced by Kumiko Watanabe in the Japanese version, and by Cherami Leigh in the English dubbed version.

History[]

Regina came into being in the aftermath of the Trump Kingdom's destruction by the Jikochu, resulting from Bel's attempt to extract Princess Marie Ange's Psyche cause it to split into two due to internal conflict over fighting her own father when he transformed into King Jikochu. Marie's body, reformed into the egg that hatched in Ai, and the half of her psyche that embodies her selfless desire to protect her kingdom travel to Earth. The other half, embodying Marie's selfish desire to save her father, is reborn as Regina.

Eventually arriving to Earth, Regina assumed the Cure would make fun playmates while taking an interest in Mana Aida. While Regina starts to question the Jikochus' invasion of Earth despite still being bound to her concern towards King Jikochu, she would be subjected to mind control to keep her loyal to their cause before being placed in a coma after being defeated by Madoka Aguri, later revealed to be her twin created from the other half of Marie's psyche.

Regina awakens and claims the Miracle Dragon Glaive, an ancient weapon once held by Cure Magician which Marie inherited from. Regina finally breaks free from King Jikochu's spell after her origins are revealed with Mana keeping her and Aguri from killing each other, with Regina realizing the selfish love she manifested from has extended to her new friends as she joins the Precures as she and Aguri manage to reach King Jikochuu so he can be purified back into King Trump. Following the destruction of the Proto-Jikochu, the being that possessed King Jikochuu and then Bel, Marie Ange's spirit explains that the process that divided her psyche into Aguri and Regina cannot be undone and encourages them to remain their own individuals and live out their lives. Soon after, Regina and King Trump move in with the Aida with the former attending Oogai First Middle School as a honorary PreCure.

Novel[]

Despite being accepted by her new friends and being a better relationship with Aguri, Regina struggles to self-doubt over being a honorary Precure. At that moment, two surviving Selfish Agents known as Lust and Goma are freed and aid a villain named Kurata in stirring conflict between the Trump Republic and Earth. The event causes Regina and Aguri, who lost her ability to transform into Cure Ace at the time, to gain the ability to temporary merge into Cure Joker to help the other Cures. Following the villains' defeat and receiving encouraging words from Marie Ange's spirit, Regina gained a new sense of self-acceptance over having all the traits the Pretty Cure possess.

Appearance[]

Regina has long yellow hair that reaches down to her waist, decorated with a red bow on top. She wears a dark grey dress decorated with red parts and a black jacket, on her evil outfit when she is brainwashed by the King Jikochuu, her bow and details on her outfit are purple. Regina's eyes are normally blue, but when she is brainwashed, her eyes turn red.

Personality[]

Regina is selfish, vain and spoiled, treating everyone else as her servants and, as she puts it, hating anything else more beautiful than her. If she doesn't get the selfish trio to do what she wants, she acts like a child talking to her older siblings, threatening them with telling on them to her father. She is also playful and tries to haul Mana around and make her play instead of going to classes or being responsible.

At the end of episode 16, she recalls what Mana said about true friends, but she doesn't know what a true friend is. On episode 17, she is controlled by the red royal crystal, in which it makes her eyes look red, and can have dark power.

Powers[]

  • Her powers are shown in episode 15, as she could turn people into Jikochuu, even without any selfish thoughts.
  • She first produces a hole and then she puts her finger and then a dark energy is produced as it colors the person's heart and then she summoned a Jikochuu.
  • She has another power, as shown in episode 17, as she could turn people into stones, by producing dark energy, because she is controlled by the Red Crystal.

Trivia[]

  • She is the first Precure villain with two color themes: Red for her normal form and purple form while brainwashed.
  • She replaced Selfish Agent Lust in representing the deadly sin lust, reflecting in Marie Ange's desire to protect her father.
  • Regina's voice actresses were involved in the Sailor Moon series:
    • Kumiko Watanabe voiced Jun Jun in the 90s Sailor Moon anime.
    • Cherami Leigh voiced Minako Aino in the Viz dubs of 90s Sailor Moon anime and Sailor Moon Crystal, which also played in Regina's resemblance to Sailor Venus.
