Regina Saldanha Junqueira is a character and the main antagonist of the Brazilian telenovela Cúmplices de Um Resgate, based on the central antagonist of the 2002 Mexican telenovela of the same name. Regina is responsible for the separation of twins Isabela and Manuela.
She was portrayed by Maria Pinna.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Not much is known about Regina's life, although at some point in her life she and her brother Geraldo met Safira and Orlando, an rich man and married them, but Regina was barren and could not have children, to maintain her marriage, she kidnapped the newborn daughter of a woman and separated her from her sister. Regina makes Isabela believe she's her mother and during all these years she mistreated the girl also out of jealousy of the love and affection that Orlando gave her.
Cúmplices de Um Resgate[]
Regina is seen for the first time in the fairy tale story read by a little girl, Orlando, an rich king gives her a ring representing the time of their son is to be born, she is enchanted by the ring, Orlando can't wait to be a father, however Regina doesn't "feel it's the right time" for that. Orlando tells her that the servants will be at their disposal while he is on an expedition. Regina is upset that he can't keep up with the baby, Orlando feels sorry for it, they say goodbye. Regina takes a pillow from her belly, she says in front of the mirror that this baby that her husband wants so badly needs to come soon
A pregnant peasant woman is in childbirth, Regina celebrates happily for the day until she is interrupted by one of the employees who shows her some clothes for the baby, Rebecca gives birth to a twins babies, the midwife, admired holds the babies in her lap, a man enters the room and the midwife confuses him with Maurício, he asks him to give the children, but the woman says rebecca needs to wake up and see them, but the man refuses to leave the babies he states to the midwife that the mother will never be able to know of the existence of the other baby and kidnaps Isabela
Geraldo arrives at the castle with the baby but hides when he sees the dwarf official employee, he leaves, Geraldo goes to Regina and Orlando's roombut sees a maidwife preparing her birth and hides, the midwife tries to touch Regina's belly but is rejected by her not allowing. Geraldo shows Isabela to Regina, she is angry to see that it is a girl. Isabela pees on Regina's face, she wipes her face.
12 years pass, Regina is arguing with Isabela, she refuses to let Regina comb her hair Isabela threatens to throw the brush at Regina, she gets angry and leaves the room. Orlando calms the girl down, Isabela explains to him that Regina doesn't really love him. He tells Isabela that she needs to be a little more meek, Orlando reveals that he chose the name Isabela because it means purity. he tells her that it doesn't matter if her personality is strong but Isabela's heart always stays pure.
Back in the real world Isabela is in the room singing out of tune when she is interrupted by Marina who warns her that Regina gave her a week off and that they must travel together, it annoys Isabela who just says he's up to making the trip to get away from Regina, she scolds Regina for not let her participate in auditions for a new band that formed, Regina argues that she is sparing the girl from it so as not to embarrass, she states that Isabela has no talent for singing, Regina is sarcastic to be "realistic", Isabela threatens her with a comb, Regina leaves and calls for Marina.
Isabela asks Orlando to take her to Geraldo's label because the new band needs vocalist, Orlando suggests that she talk to Regina. Regina forbade, he tells Regina it costs nothing to try, Regina complains about Isabela's rebellious way and says that this way he will end up spoiling the girl too much. Orlando argues with her and tries to soften the coldness with which Regina treats her daughter, Regina defends herself and says it's discipline, she argues that Isabela has no talent for singing and that this will be a disappointment. Orlando claims that Regina never cared about Isabela, Regina claims that he wanted to have children, Orlando says she soon changed her mind when she saw that the marriage was terrible. Regina and Orlando argue and she leaves the office.
Regina goes to a ground floor where a helicopter with Geraldo lands, she complains that Orlando will take Isabela to the auditions for vocalist and wants Geraldo to prevent it, Geraldo tells her to take it easy, Regina complains to her that Orlando is an influential man who does everything for his daughter, and that this may end up convincing Arthur. Geraldo states that Arthur owns the record label and not him, Regina states that if Isabela becomes famous, Rebecca and Manuela will recognize her and that the two can get screwed. Geraldo says Regina who will herself, Regina remembers that he had a part in this too.
