“ | Bright: In regards of these sordid and disgusting accusations, no further approaches will be made to Mrs. Wintergreen. Morse: Peter Willaims, a young boy, may have been murdered, sir. Bright: Oh, indeed? Who says so? My wife happens to sit on the Widows and Orphans steering committee with Hazel Wintergreen. Morse: Oh, well... Bright: Yes, "Oh, well!" I appreciate such hateful grubbiness may accord with your "four legs good" view of the world, but it does not make it so. It does not make it a fact. It does not make it true. Thursday: It is fishy, though, sir. Landesman acquires Blenheim Vale and, the next thing, Dr. Portman's dig gets shut down. Morse: We've three men alleging Wintergreen interfered with them, sir. Three. Bright: There is nothing in that! Blenheim Vale was looked at in the early '50s! Morse: Looked at by whom? Bright: Assistant Chief Constable Deare, amongst others. The investigation concluded there was nothing went on there that could not be found occurring in any minor public school. Anything more is just the wild and spiteful imaginings of a group of former delinquents! |

Police Chief Superintendent Reginald Bright, also nicknamed Reggie, is a major character in Endeavour.
He is portrayed by Anton Lesser, who also portrayed Qyburn from Game of Thrones.
Biography[]
In the earlier stage, Bright originally served as a corrupt and unsympathetic police officer, who had been a part of Oxford's circle of corrupt officials. Whilst he is not exactly vicious or murderous, Bright had put a blind eye and even took a slight part in Oxford's police corruption. He was shown to be an arrogant and obnoxious leader and had been putting Morse into inaction quite often, seeing Morse's investigation as an unnecessary part.
This became cemented in the Season 2, particularly in its finale "Neverland", where Bright banned Morse from investigating about the Blenheim Vale's past as well as Gerald Wintergreen's involvement within the pedophile ring.
From Season 3 onwards, however, Bright had a change of heart after seeing his own inaction brought upon Morse and his blind eye on Clive Deare's murder against Thursday. After Morse's release and recover, like Peter Jakes, Bright began to become a better person and became much more supportive to Morse, eventually redeeming himself by saving Morse from a ferocious tiger, as a penance for his part in the corrupt rings.
Trivia[]
- Reginald had stated that disliked being nicknamed as "Reggie" and insisted to be referred as Reginald.

- It was stated that Bright originally had a daughter who died in an young age. Anton Lesser had implied that Bright's parental and caring attitude towards Shirley Trewlove was because she reminded him of his daughter.
