Reiko is a supporting antagonist in the 2023 video game Mortal Kombat 1, the first installment of the "New Era" in the Mortal Kombat franchise. He is the former second-in-command of Outworld's military and the loyal right-hand man of General Shao.
He is voiced by Derek Philips, who also voiced Mark Jefferson in Life is Strange, Treavor Pendleton in Dishonored, Arthur Maxson in Fallout 4, and Randall in The Walking Dead: Michonne.
Biography[]
This version of Reiko and his family were captured during the Kafallah War, and was the only one who survived after months of imprisonment. General Shao freed him during a raid, and despite his age, he took revenge of his captors, killing them. Shao was impressed at Reiko's tenacity and made him his squire. Reiko was raised as a soldier, absolutely loyal to Shao, and became his second in command. Reiko would be a part of Shao's conspiracy to take over Outworld, along with the sorcerers Shang Tsung and Quan Chi, and the Mage Rain.
Mortal Kombat 1[]
When Li Mei was defeated by Raiden in the tournament, Reiko was chosen to fight against him next, to which resulted in he mocked the humble Earthrealmer. While convinced at his superiority, he was defeated by the farmer, which Reiko would later blame on Raiden's lightning amulet. At the banquet, both Reiko and Shao were revolted at Kung Lao's gluttony. During Sun Do's Shiva Ranata, he was standing guard looking for the Earthrealmers that Liu Kang sent into Outworld without the Empress' notice. He, General Shao, and Li Mei, found Syzoth setting up the fires and was ordered to capture him. He and Li Mei were defeated by the Zaterran and Kenshi.
When Li Mei was guiding Liu Kang to the Empress to show Earthrealm's innocence, Reiko and Motaro were blocking the way and demanded to send him back to the portal gate. After she refused, it resulted in a fight with Li Mei being the victor. He, Motaro, and the Outworld military stormed in Shang Tsung's lab to capture the royal family. He was once again defeated by Empress Sindel and was imprisoned under Mileena's rule along with General Shao and the sorcerers.
Reiko and Shao escaped from prison and began building a new army to overthrow Mileena and the royal family, but they found many of the recruits lacking. Thus, Shao elected to use Onaga to get the advantage, and Reiko offered his services to tame him, in spite of the risk to life.

- Outworlder Physiology: Reiko was born as an Outworlder. He looks like a human but has greater talent for magic and has a longer lifespan.
- Magic: Reiko possesses a blood red magical aura that he can use to further enhance his attacks and to draw more blood from his opponents.
- Longevity: Reiko has been a member of Outworld's military under Empress Sindel's Golden Age for a few thousands of years which makes it clear that he's over a millennia year old and it's unknown how long he can keep living.
- Superhuman Durability: Reiko is capable of resisting great impacts of force that can kill a normal human being. He can remain unfazed by those who can deliver powerful forces of attacks to him.
- Superhuman Agility: Reiko can use acrobatic maneuvers in quick succession such as dodge rolling and sprinting at the speed of sound. He can use this impressive agility to easily dodge incoming projectiles.
- Superhuman Reflexes: Reiko can react quickly to incoming attacks and can counter them out of nowhere after forcefully moving his opponents to his former position.
- Superhuman Strength: Reiko has been known for having outstanding physical strength. His massive upper body strength gives him the might he needed to suppress pain from the attacks he delivers. He can deliver a punch with so much force that he can draw out a large amount of blood from anyone who has great durability.

- Acrobatics: Reiko uses a lot of acrobatic stunts like how a professional athlete does. He can evade with amazing flips and dodge rolls. He had thousands of years of experience to perfect his acrobatic movements during his service in Outworld's military.
- Gifted Intelligence: As a prisoner during the Kafallah war, he was adopted by General Shao and trained in the all the ways of kombat, military protocol, and war. With a brilliant tactical mind, impressive leadership, and extreme knowledge on Outworld and its history, he rose to become one of the most intelligent warriors in Outworld as well as being General Shao's second-in-command of Outworld's army.
- Expert Tactician and Strategist: Shao had taught him the ways of formulating impressive strategies to deal with Outworld's enemies. He has planned with the General and the sorcerers to seize control of Outworld's throne with the armies of Outworld who are loyal to them.
- Leadership: Reiko was the second-in-command of Outworld's army and later General Shao's rebellion. He can command a group of soldiers to surround their enemies, and the army has always answered to him during General Shao's absence.
- Master Martial Artist/Combatant: During the last few thousand years of serving under Empress Sindel's rule, Reiko was trained by General Shao in all the ways of combat including martial arts, weapons, and other ways of fighting. He can fight off many members of Sun Do's constabulary, the Umgadi priestesses, and even the Outworld army under Kitana's leadership. Throughout all his time of training and war fighting he was known as one of the greatest and strongest fighters in Outworld and all the other realms. Under Shao's leadership of forming the rebellion, he was tasked of fighting and taming Onaga at Mount Tsaagan. In various encounters, he pointed out that he defeated and tamed Onaga.
- Weapon Mastery: Reiko has a great use of wielding anything he can use as a weapon against his enemies. He is known for being a master in many of the weapons that are used by the Outworld military like spears, shurikens, knives, etc.
- Shuriken Throwing: Reiko has excellent throwing skills of using shurikens for fighting. He managed to throw a shuriken directly at Syzoth in his reptilian form watching over the disaster during the Shiva Ranatai festival. He almost never misses when his opponents are far or at a greater height from where he is standing.
- Spear Proficiency: Reiko is an expert of using a spear in combat. He can twirl it with ease and can use it to cut or impale his opponents.
- Knife Proficiency: Reiko is proficient in wielding knives in combat. He used knives to kill the Sun Do constables after Li Mei refused to heed his demand.
- Weapon Mastery: Reiko has a great use of wielding anything he can use as a weapon against his enemies. He is known for being a master in many of the weapons that are used by the Outworld military like spears, shurikens, knives, etc.
- Intimidation: Being an orphan of war and exacting blood revenge on his captors, he became a very intimidating person who impressed General Shao when he found him. Some are shaken up by his presence, but it does have limits to some people who have strong wills.
- Indomitable Will: Reiko is known to have an unbreakable spirit ever since Shao witnessed him avenging his parents by murdering his captives. His loyalty to Shao is absolute that he is able to support any action he decides to make, even if it meant "betrayal." Empress Sindel refused to bring war to Earthrealm and this finally convinced him that she is not capable of ruling Outworld. He supported Shao's vision for Outworld and he joined the sorcerers and the General to depose the royal family. After the conspiracy was foiled by Liu Kang and Geras, this did not stop him and his allies for confronting them and Sindel's family about their plan. Reiko mentioned that even if his rebellion had cost him is life and everything, he admits that he owes his loyalty Shao many times over and that it's an honor to sacrificing his life into his service. Although he was imprisoned for actions, he still fully believed in General Shao's vison and escaped easily. Though Tanya tried to remind him that he swore an oath to protect the Empress, he sternly reminded her and the Outworld royal family that he swore an oath to protect Outworld and that they support their natural enemy, Earthrealm and Liu Kang. Because the Umgadi, Sun Do Constabulary, and the royal family support Liu Kang and Earthrealm, Reiko now sees them as Outworld's enemies as well. He was tasked for taming Onaga in order to bring down Liu Kang and although it's a suicide task, he still willingly accepted the mission to honor Outworld and his service to General Shao.
