Reiss Colwell is a fictional character and major antagonist of the British Soap Opera EastEnders. He debuted on 12th December 2022 and started out as a major protagonist in 2023 before later becoming a secondary antagonist in 2024 onwards.

He was portrayed by Jonny Freeman.

Biography

Reiss Colwell first came to Albert Square in Walford, a fictional borough in East London, from December 2022 just before Christmas that year.

Upon arrival, Reiss turned out to be the great-nephew of local resident Dot Cotton following her death a few days ago. He soon meets her caretaker Sonia Jackson and the two begin dating after her funeral. Soon enough their relationship developed throughout the following year. He also briefly worked for mechanic Keanu Taylor until he was murdered on Christmas Day 2023.

In 2024, Reiss started having money troubles due to the bills he kept receiving from a care home that was looking after his comatose wife Debbie. It was then Reiss planned various underhand tactics to try and surmount his financial issues, though Sonia later ridiculed him for keeping secrets from her. In a last resort, Reiss visited his wife and apologized to her before smothering her to death with a pillow in order to get her inheritance.

Following Debbie's death, her parents Hugh and Brenda arrive to question Reiss about the circumstances behind her death. Hugh accepts Reiss' fabrication of the story whereas Brenda remains suspicious, though it soon turns out that she has never liked Reiss to the point of never trusting him even during his marriage with Debbie at the time. It is then she reports Reiss to the police, who in turn arrest Reiss and Sonia at their engagement party on suspicion of Debbie's murder. Reiss is able to give the police an alibi and is released from custody, but he is shocked when Sonia ends up getting charged for the crime. Despite this, however, Reiss chooses to keep quiet rather then tell Sonia the truth in order to avoid being exposed for the crime. This consequently results in Sonia getting sent to prison for the crime awaiting trial, whereas Reiss appears to have gotten away with the crime despite feeling guilt-ridden over Sonia's predicament.
