~ Rekka's doppelganger talking about his delusional ideology. |
Rekka Hoshimiya is a major antagonist of Fire Force. He originally presented himself as a lieutenant of Special Fire Force Company 1 and a priest working at the Holy Sol Temple, but he later turns out to be an agent of the White-Clad, turning people into artificial Infernals and finding sources of the Adolla Burst.
He is voiced by Tomokazu Seki (who also voiced Gilgamesh, Enrico Pucci, and Hadlar) in Japanese and Kellen Goff (who also voiced Freddy Fazbear, Fredbear, Funtime/Molten Freddy, and the Daycare Attendant in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, Diavolo in JoJo's Bizarre Adevnture, Hans in Konosuba, Gouketsu in One Punch Man, Zagred in Black Clover, Fiddlesticks in League of Legends, the Abyss Herald in Genshin Impact, Techno-Pirate in Miraculous Ladybug, and Kai Chisaki in My Hero Academia) in English.
Personality[]
In Rekka's debut, he was a confident, excitable individual known for his determination, whose qualities caused Tamaki Kotatsu to admire and fall in love with him. However, after being revealed to work for the White-Clad, Rekka's friendly demeanor turns out to be a facade and he is actually an insane, sadistic experimenter who relishes in his cruelty with a smile on his face. He has no regard for human life, as seen when he experiments on people by turning them into artificial Infernals at a whim and kills them upon finding that they didn't have the Adolla Burst.
Rekka's sense of determination also embeds into his true villainous intentions, such as claiming that his test subjects were admirable when fighting for their lives and not acknowledging it was an insult, while believing that his own actions were courageous and refused to give up even when he ends up overheating himself with his own powers. He does not take kindly when his actions are rebuked, as seen when Tamaki saw his true colors after he killed a mother whom had failed his standards after being transformed by him, and savagely beats her for "betraying" him.
Rekka was completely devoted to his ideology, praising himself as a righteous person no matter how much atrocities he commits. After his death, his devotion manifested in his doppelganger, which was an exact duplicate of Rekka due to his ideology defining him. Rekka's doppelganger had the exact same personality as the original, only he admits that he wanted to see humanity in despair and for his former allies to embrace a future where Adolla takes over the world.
Biography[]
Rekka first appears in the 1st Special Fire Brigade Arc, where he is a priest of the Fire Fighting Cathedral alongside Karim Flam and Huo Yan Li, and all three spar with the rookies visiting the cathedral. Once the day is over, Rekka privately goes to a phone booth and contacts his true affiliates, the White-Clad, saying that the creation of artificial Infernals will not be delayed. Afterward, he uses one of the Bugs to turn a civilian into an Infernal.
Later, Rekka meets up with Tamaki, telling her about a prayer that can protect people from transforming into Infernals. He tells her to go so that he can focus on his prayer, but she insists to learn about it. Rekka hugs her tightly to the point where she suffocates until she falls unconscious. With Tamaki being unable to witness, Rekka injects a mother with the Bug and kills her when finding out she is incompativle with the Adolla Burst. He is about to do the same to her child when Tamaki wakes up and slaps him, knowing he isn't the man she thought he was. Rekka then injects a young child named Nataku "Tatsu" Son to grant him pyrokinesis, and Tamaki uses her ability to create a distress signal. Enraged by her refusal to comply, Rekka beats her up until her ally Shinra saves her.
Rekka yells at Shinra not to interfere with his plans and the two have a duel. He senses that the Bug in his pocket is reacting to Shinra's flames, realizing that Shinra is a carrier of the Adolla Burst. He passionately talks about all of the children whom he experimented on, enraging Shinra whose attacks are parried by Rekka's abilities. Shinra manages to kick Rekka in the face, causing him to fall to the ground. After Shinra tries to tell Rekka to stop his crimes, the cultist tells him about his desire to worship the Sun God and turn the whole planet into a second sun.
Tamaki tries to evacuate the children that Rekka had captured for his future experiments, and he decides to kill them so he could hide their deaths as an accident. His fire powers spiral out of control to the point where his arms begin to burn up. Suddenly, Karim shows up, freezing his arms and putting out the fires using his Thermoacoustic Refrigeration ability. Rekka tells him not to interfere, but Karim freezes his entire body, leaving air bubbles so that Rekka can be captured alive. The fully-frozen Rekka meets his end when Arrow fires a flame arrow straight at his chest, killing him.
Rekka's actions left a huge impact on Company 1, causing Karim to join Company 8 to find out more about his traitorous friend, while Onyango came out of retirement to take over Rekka's original job. Nataku Son was severely traumatized by Rekka, hallucinating the cultist telling him to unleash his power, to the point where he went on a rampage. With the help of Kurono, Nataku managed to recover from his trauma.
